Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

Okay, I'd like to get the board's thoughts for an article (not quoting anyone directly). Did Kyle make the right move in heading to the 2025 NFL Draft, and by extension, who do you think will be Syracuse's starting QB next season?
I wanted him back, was hoping he'd come back, but he made the right decision. If he was the QB at Penn State they'd have beaten ND. If he was the QB at Alabama, they'd be in the CFP. He's a guy that can make passes and elevate a team.

Maybe Kyle did Fran and us fans one last favor earlier this week. Too many people were positive the waiver was approved and then the nil wheels were turning for it to be all fake.

Im thinking that maybe Kyle saying if I come back that NIL money better be ready with the money was no matter what going to be a win for Fran. From what everyone said here the NIL was ready and it was competitive.

I hope Fran can tap that same money that would’ve been spent on Kyle to go get another portal QB or other impact players that he thinks he needs.

Sure its a little of bit of a bait and switch for the big donors but whatever. If by Kyle saying he was weighing his options and that got people to give an extra million or 2 in NIL to the program that still is a win For us peasants on this board.

I think he made the right decision. He is certainly going out on a high. As far as next season, I'll go Rickie Collins. I don't expect him to be Kyle, but don't think Fran and Jeff Nixon would bring in a transfer that they didn't see something they really liked.

I agree with all who say he made the right call to declare now.

Only Cam Ward and Shedeur are clear locks for the 1st round.

Then, in some order it's:
Milroe LOL,
Ewers - may not declare
Beck - hurt and going to The Ewe w his GF
Dart - may not declare/trying for waiver
Kyle.

Depending on how things fall, he could go as high as 3rd or 4th QB taken.

So, does that equate to 2nd or 3rd round?
Maybe?

Whomever wins the QB battle between Jakhari & Collins (with the Tx Fr Carney as a darkhorse) is QB1.

I'll throw my .44 cents on Jakhari, who has a year in the system over those other 2 guys.

My thoughts;
Yes Kyle made the right choice. :-(
Collins wins QB1. Williams will be QB2. More of a guess at this point though as we really haven't seen much from either Collins or Williams to know exactly who they are.
In 2026 Carney will push for QB1.

Next man up:

  • Williams?
  • Carney?
  • Collins?
  • Portal QB?
Glad Carney / Collins will be here to participate in spring ball. Going to be an interesting off-season in the QB room.

Now that we have the official decision from Kyle, it will be interesting to see if we go after another bigger name, experienced Portal QB. I bet we will.

I don't get the Milroe hype, at all.

Cam Ward & Sanders, sure.

Ewers = not overly impressed.

Beck = injured. worth the gamble??

Dart = legit, but he's apparently trying appeal for another year?

So, they have Kyle as basically late 3rd round / early 4th range.
Does he gamble that that's his floor, or what if it's his ceiling??

Not an easy decision to make. Either way.
If you want someone to throw back-breaking interceptions then Ewers is your guy.

He’s an adult with more than enough college experience and a favorable batch of competition in the draft this year. There’s no downside to getting started with his pro career and play with/learn from the best.

Good for Kyle. Makes us look good.

Jakhari or Collins or a portal, good luck.

Generally, I always want a dual threat QB, but they have to actually be a dual-threat, not just a guy that plays QB and runs well but can't throw.

So long as he goes to the Giants, I can forgive his selfishness.
yeah, the Giants were the first thing I thought of as well. With Watson out for the season now, there is a good chance that Cam/Sanders will be both be off the board at #3. So thinking the GMen should wait until the 2nd round (3rd pick, 35th overall), and there is a decent chance that one of these 3 will still be on the board (McCord, Dart, Milroe). Then they can sign a bridge guy like Fields or Darnold for a year while the rookie develops.

I could be wrong, because this thread is 150 pages long. But I thought I read someone who I find reputable say that the NIL for Kyle was specifically going to be for Kyle. But again, I could be wrong.

I agree that bringing in Rickie told me they didn't think Williams could handle the job. Could things change? Sure but I agree with how it stands now.
Disagree on that. No matter what they think of Jakhari, they needed another QB numbers wise regardless. Jakhari has no experience and proof of what he can do, so why not bring in another good QB and have them fight it out.

Dear Fran and Jeff - Thank you for bringing Kyle to us. All the best to him, hope he has a long NFL career.

One ask, just please don’t allow for a spring QB competition, cloaked in secrecy, that spills to summer camp with no starter named until the winner jogs into the huddle against Tennessee, for his first start on national TV. I think handling it this way will only add to the pressure on the next QB.

With Love,
Joe Fields (or a long suffering fan since 1995)

That’s too bad.
