Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

I do think the NCAA could grant every athlete 5 years going forward. That needs to approved though by May to keep Kyle here.
The only rational is that Ryan Day is a nitwit. I just can't see that working. But I do wonder if we (Syracuse) have found another case where they let a guy play another year under similar circumstances.

What is the rationale? If he appeals he needs something to base it on. He wasn't hurt. He played in 5 games. So besides the NCAA just feeling like being nice, there isn't anything to really go on.
What is the rationale of 4 games being the amount of games one can't exceed to come back an additional year? It's arbitrary. What is the intent of the rule? So, player A can play every down for 4 games and still come back for an extra year, whereas player B can only play very limited time in 5 games and he cannot come back? Which player gained more of an advantage?

I just hope that IF McCord wants to come back the decision is soon so SU doesn't miss out on their #1 target.
Obviously Syracuse wants to know ASAP, but the NCAA doesn't work on our timetable. If we found out today, then the staff could adjust their portal recruiting accordingly. I think that's why there's so much confusion with recruiting guys with starting experience vs recruiting high potential, multi year transfers.

Agree and that's what I meant by decision, sorry and you're right I should have added the NCAA.

NIL damages caused by Ryan Day's reckless negligence towards a student athlete. Any attorney worth their salt would have a field day writing the petition.

McCord loses out on seven figures next season because of 8 passes in 2021?
This, I've been watching to see if this ever pops up. The reality is, it wasn't his decision to play meaningless snaps in that game. There are repercussions if he tells Day he's not going in because he wants to preserve his redshirt. Day's decision and McCord's lack of say into his eligibility, coupled with the fact that they are now earning serious money and McCord will lose out on more than most people make in 10 years, is something easily argued in litigation.

The original rule was that if you got injured and you only played 30% of the games (and all the games were in the first half of the season), you were eligible to apply for a redshirt.

30% of 12 games = 3.6 games, rounded up to 4.

The rule was changed during Covid to allow redshirting for everyone who only played 4 games.

That's where the 4 game amount came from.

So, it’s not tied to injury anymore. I think a good argument could be made using the rationale I mentioned. If you add up the total number of snaps McCord took that year, does it even add up to the number of offensive snaps that OSU averaged per game? I doubt it. If the spirit of the rule is to not penalize a student athlete for a year that is incomplete, this fits the bill.

1. The NCAA rules do not make sense
2. They don’t deviate from their rules

Screw it I'm in. McCord's getting another year, we run the table against that schedule and get the NC. McCord is playing in the bowl explicitly to show the NCAA that he's still suiting up as a college player. Fran's making the case that the NCAA has the opportunity to bring back the best QB in the nation playing high profile games all season long, and all they have to do to make it happen for the good of college football is remember that Ryan Day is a dweeb.

It's happening.
I'm going to bump the ish out of this thread if he comes back.

I’m no lawyer but when a kid, a freshman in particular, is told to go in, what the hell is he supposed to do? So, Ryan Day being a brain dead moron should not cost him a year, it’s garbage and I would think a good lawyer would use what David said, loss of NIL revenue, as the focus. The rule acts as if the player controls this kind of thing. How about strip Ryan Day of a couple of million for costing Kyle a year?

While smoking that joint, did you book a trip to San Diego by any chance? You could talk to Kyle while you are there, and get the real story.

Ugh, not yet. I head to NY tomorrow for the holidays. I'm waiting until I get there to decide if I'll stay through New Years, or escape immediately after Christmas. I'll keep you posted.

Spot on.
