Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

He’s seen as a lower rd pick. Another year successful year would improve his position. He can probably get about the same amount as a lower rd pick staying.
Not to mention, and somebody correct me if I’m wrong, an undrafted free agent, or at best where they are talking about him from a 3rd to 6th round pick, in this day and age, he could actually make more $ next year by staying here as I’m hearing he could make dramatically more than he made last year should he return.

The fact that there’s even a hint of possibility of this happening, is mind boggling in and of itself.

It really is the wild wild West in “college” sports now. Nothing from the past necessarily means anything for the future in terms of predicting anything, including playing in the All-Star game meaning a kid is gone.

Heck my mind is blown that he is even playing in the bowl game

Are we sure Kyle would want to stay? I’m sure his ultimate goal is to get into the league and waiting a year probably won’t help his chances.
From what I’ve heard Kyle has said if he can, he will definitely be back next year at Cuse. This part is my opinion ——> if I had to guess I’d say if he comes back whatever he gets in NIL would be double next season.

I honestly would beg to differ. Right now his stock is up slightly but he is still a day 3-UDFA on most draft boards. It is already solidified who the top guys in this years class are and even if he kills the bowl game and draft workouts that really isn’t going to change. Next year I think breeds a ton more opportunity for him. Right now the top prospect for next year is Arch Manning and he has barely even played college ball. After that it’s a lot of guys who are inexperienced or not fully proven. If Kyle came back and had a similar season to this year with a much tougher schedule and far more national attention he could easily work his way into a Day 2 selection if higher.

With the incredible success Kyle has had this year, who is his comp from the basketball side in terms of impact on the program.

a) Pearl
b) Melo
c) DC
d) JW
e) Rosie

I amended this based on other excellent examples of transformative hoops stars

I’d say Pearl. Pearl elevated the program as McCord is doing and he was a PG, similar leadership position as QB.

One good thing about being an undrafted QB he can pick from his suiters and not be forced to play in a horrible system a lot of QB's drafted are put in.
Agreed but that kid is getting drafted. It might not be round 1 or 2. He will prolly go later in the cycle, hopefully plucked by a team that has there sh*% together. No lofty expectations and is ALLOWED to develop into a true nfl qb. Then years later the commenters will go . Ohhhh man how did so many teams miss on this kid!?!? To be fair as the data has shown, this is typically the best route anyways.

Agree. Just like the NBA and the young guys that can jump out of a gym, the NFL can't resist those strong armed guys that can throw a ball threw a wall or the extremely athletic QB who can throw a decent ball but both can't read a defense whatsoever and are a huge flop.

here is what i will say... and i have mocked ryan day all year.

but from what i have heard was the first battle won was ohio state signing off on our waiver. and they (aka ryan day) did.

me thinks that is why Fran reiterated the "heck i owe him a case of champagne" a couple of weeks ago.

it now sits with NCAA. And Mccord still has to decide. But OSU did everyone a favor by giving the OK to start this.
That’s the piece I was concerned with. If they signed off and have acknowledged their fault, then the case has a MUCH higher probability of going our way.

Actually has me with my hopes slightly up.

Well, there is little doubt that we have indeed asked for a waiver. As I said earlier, someone that we all know was told by someone at the University that they expect to win. That someone who said that was not Fran Brown. I have no reason to think that is correct and could think of no rational where it could be. But damn, someone here did just make a pretty good case for a waiver. I still don't believe it. But it is interesting.

Are you someone that we all know?

I’d say Pearl. Pearl elevated the program as McCord is doing and he was a PG, similar leadership position as QB

Wallace.
Hard to come up with an equivalent. Tony Bruin was a huge recruit for Boeheim. So getting Pearl--an even bigger recruit--was hardly out of nowhere. Pearl put us on a big stage, but the stage was already set so to speak. And Pearl never really led us far in the Big Dance. For fun... watch a bit of Syracuse/Houston when the latter had a few NBA Hall of Famers, but we won: One of Bruin's best games. Anyway, I guess we could say Melo because he elevated the program to a new level.

From a football side... perhaps you could say Tim Green? Whereas we tended to lose recruiting battles to Penn State, it was Green deciding to stay home that gave the program momentum again. Green was gone by 1987, but the fruits were paying off that season. If you can spare some time... watch this 1987 game against Penn State. It becomes pretty clear that this was the best team Syracuse has had in my life time. No real weakness. October 17, 1987 - #10 Penn State @ #13 Syracuse

I'll say Wes Johnson. McCord isn't on Melo's level, but I think Wes (a fantastic one-year player for us) is an apt comparison. He's a guy who was very good before coming to SU and then became great at SU.

The original rule was that if you got injured and you only played 30% of the games (and all the games were in the first half of the season), you were eligible to apply for a redshirt.

30% of 12 games = 3.6 games, rounded up to 4.

The rule was changed during Covid to allow redshirting for everyone who only played 4 games.

That's where the 4 game amount came from.
the original rule was more along the lines you couldnt play after game 4. the 30% rule was for bball. But the rule has been tweaked a few times over the years.

The only reasons to come back are because he loves college/college football and/or because his NIL deal would surpass any NFL comp. That could also be based on this year's NFL draft class at Qb vs next year's. He's 22 and has been playing college football at the highest level. His stock isnt rising any higher.

the NCCA has a rule you get 5 yrs to play 4. That allows for RS. It does not say you get yrs 6-7-8-9 like some kids. The NCAA then allowed waivers for all sorts of reasons to extend the 5 yr plan. Not sure what the difference is really in some of their reasoning. You could start 4 games and play 300 plays and get hurt and get the season back or you could play 10-20 plays over 5 games and lose the season.

if the goal is what is best for the player and the kid is still in the 5 yr window in this day and age maybe they go towards reason and not strictly on rule.

BTW, I dare anyone to watch 3 minutes of the 1987 game. If you can do that and stop... you are better than me. I am approaching halftime...

Wallace.

144% THIS.

Pearl was like Jim Brown - a GOAT-level player (in his case, sadly only in HS and college)
who started off the program rising to national prominence.

J-Dub was the guy who helped get us back out of the wilderness after a period of subpar seasons,
And got us back into the National conversation as a great program.

Which is what Kyle did for us this year.
