LeQuint Allen: Drafted by Jacksonville / Rd 7 Pk 236

Interesting one. If a team can end a contract at any point what benefit is it for the players to sign beyond year to year contracts? Also, team offering 4 year deal to a 7th rounder isn't the norm is it? I'm legit asking and appreciate the info

You hope as a team you hit on that pick. Let’s say there’s injuries or LQA balls out. His contract is a steal. This is why you see guys hold out on their rookie deal because it’s VERY team friendly and not so much player friendly especially when you find talent in the later rounds

Do guys still hold out for rookie deals? I thought the rookie pay structure they put in a few years ago pretty much ended that.

I know my Bengals are having a contract dispute with a rookie. I’m not sure how it happened other than the Brown family being insufferable sometimes.

Most are standardized by draft position:
  • Limited Negotiation: There is very little room for negotiation on the total value of the contract. However, some aspects can still be negotiated, such as:
    • Guaranteed Money: Rookies and their agents can work to maximize the amount of guaranteed money in the contract.
    • Signing Bonuses: The timing and structure of signing bonuses can be negotiated.
    • Offset Language: This impacts what happens if a player is cut and signs with another team, and can be a point of negotiation.
    • Offseason Bonuses: For players drafted later in the draft, especially in rounds 3-7, negotiation of offseason bonuses can be a way to increase compensation.

Did anyone else catch the comment from Coach Fran in the Adam Brenaman interview that LaQuint and Duce had a beef in practice and kept fighting? Assume it had to do with LaQuints administrative “difficulties” while Duce ran to LSU. Wasn’t it Duce that LaQuint was stepping in for? I found that to be an interesting nugget.

Yes it was an from what I remember hearing at the time was that LaQuint was pretty pissed that he stepped up for Duce and then Duce "Bailed" while LaQuint got all the consequences for it.

Sounds like how Triple H was the only one that got punished for the curtain call

Once we start mass producing NFL players, we need a new board for Syracuse Football Pro's!

HEAD COACH LIAM COEN
(On how he thought the younger players handled Friday's scrimmage)
“I thought, okay. Okay. I would just say okay. I think you definitely saw some bright eyes in some ways. I think [RB] LeQuint Allen [Jr.] continues to show up in terms of just doing the right thing all the time. He just plays hard. He plays fast. He made a great move in space over here. Some of those younger guys need to get used to it. The lights do get a little bit brighter in here for them, so breaking the huddle, formations that they haven't been jacking up. They did a little bit tonight, but that's kind of to be expected in some ways. We'll clean this tape up and move on.”

Never bad when the head coach calls out a rookie for doing all the right things all the time. Looking forward to seeing how Allen's rookie season goes.

Jags drafted eight players ahead of LeQuint (including RB Bhayshul Tuten) and LeQuint is the only one getting props from the HC.

Jags have invested a lot of draft capital in their RB room (Etienne - 1st, Bigsby - 3rd, and Tuten - 4th).

Not many teams carry four RBs on their 53, but this is about as sparkling of an endorsement as a rookie RB can get from a HC this early in camp.
