118k signing bonus up front... 4+ mil over 4 years. admittedly I don't understand how nfl contracts work but seems pretty straightforward?Uh, he only has a little over $100k guaranteed. The $4M is the payout over all 4 years of the deal.

He is not guaranteed $4M. He's only guaranteed the signing bonus. If he's cut at any point he would not realize the value of the remainder of the contract.118k signing bonus up front... 4+ mil over 4 years. admittedly I don't understand how nfl contracts work but seems pretty straightforward?

True, but the one position to get to the NFL early is RB. Do your thing and get to that second contract as soon as possible. The younger you can get to it, the better your chance at a good payday. Such a short shelf life at that position in the NFL.
Especially when they drafted a running back 2 rounds prior.Right but if he gets cut, and as a 7th round pick that’s likely, then you aren’t even getting that first contract, let alone the 2nd
Theoretically they could cut him tomorrow and only owe him the gtd money and eat the 30k cap hit
but if he plays out the entirety of the deal... 4.3M to Mr Allen
Interesting one. If a team can end a contract at any point what benefit is it for the players to sign beyond year to year contracts? Also, team offering 4 year deal to a 7th rounder isn't the norm is it? I'm legit asking and appreciate the info

if he makes 55 man roster does it become guaranteed? Could it become guaranteed if he makes practice squad or does he start again if relegated to practice squad?
