Ive watched alot of Elmhurst football games. Starting to really pick up on his schemes. Simple inside and outside zone concepts but it will be effecient and productive. A little bit of zone option, speed option. I can see Hunt running for a lot of yards on the QB power read play. We will be very balanced. Atleast 2000 yards rushing and 2000 yards passing.

Thanks for doing the heavy lifting on those games, money. I watched one and it was interesting - to a point...

Hope you're right!

Good to hear. I like the simplified approach and the elimination of the key stone cops revolving player door. Need to the line to jell and we should be ok

More Oregon, Auburn, than Baylor

Yeah that's about 800 short each.
It would be tenth in the country... for individual players

I'd take 5600 yds in a heartbeat.

Ummm yes? That would be 467 per game. Considering how we trended to end last year, that would seem like a minor miracle. And you'd have to assume it would be accompanied by improved red zone performance.

To be honest, even though it's considered average (at best) in modern college football, I'd be pleasantly surprised if we averaged 400 yds, 25 pts per game.

Is this a bad time to bring up that his conference record at Elmhurst was 18 - 17?

Bad time to bring up that Lester's final season was the winningest in Elmhurst history to that point? Bad time to bring up that he lead the school to its first NCAA Playoff victory. Bad time to mention that he was named COY in the CCIW.

How about some background before stating things that look negative at face value. Say like, I don't know, Elmhurst was a notoriously bad program before Lester and his predecessor showed up. They built Elmhurst into a respectable program from the ground up.

I know everyone believes there's 10 Vince Lombardi's out there knocking on the door, and, that they'll lead any school to 10 victories in year one. Holy the pessimistic and negative viewpoints on this board are staggering.

Agreed.

I knew when this thread was created that it would turn negative. The actual data available to us proves that Lester is a competent coach. It's okay to wonder how that data translates to D1 P5 ball. But the story has yet to play out.

That's my main point, this guy's worked hard for this opportunity. He's earned, at the very least, some time to run his system. I'd love for him to have at least two years, because I know it takes time. Unfortunately, I'm not sure they have that luxury.

this elmhurst stuff is just embarrassing

i'm fine with getting good lower level coaches. but since there are a frickin billion of them to choose from who would all ritualistically devour their own left nut for a sniff at a p5 coordinator job, we should probably pick coaches that perform at an elite level compared to those billion other choices

We've danced this dance before. Shafer won't hire guys he can't trust. So it's a combination of trust and ability.

His offense was in the top 20% and Shafer knows and trusts him.
