Let me repeat: Is a special teams coach important?

Don't forget the duke game changed on the punt return for a TD. this is unacceptable.

As someone said on my other thread titled the same, (can't find it) "special teams is 1/3 of the game, and we don't have a coach for it" , duh

I agree. You don't take the "FOOT" out of Football! Special Teams can't be ignored

One coach or multiple coaches, the same amount of time would be spent with each unit. So I'm not sure which is better. We've had bad specials under both scenarios.

A better OC and HC would help too. So would better players.

Please list the teams that have a dedicated ST coach.

Lot's of reasons for this horrendous season. Having or not having a dedicated ST coach is probably not one of the important reasons.

defense wins games- thats why hcss doesnt bother forming a offensive game plan or have any special teams meetings or practice -

hcss doesnt have any ole boy special teams guy he can hire -

dont seee any reason we cant hire a special teams coach full time since we dont have any offensive coach's on staff-

next year will be just another groober remake like this year -

no reason to keep this staff around for another season other than dr gross is to consumed with Olympic sports to care about a low priority sport like football

LSU does. I only know this because the Jets hired him last year, and their STs got worse.

You're right , there isn't. I guess my point is, make special teams a priority. Name someone ST/TE coach, like Casullo was when he was here under Marrone. They don't have a position coach and it shows. Or do they? Who coaches the ST's ?

No, we don't need one. We need a TE coach instead.

 :)

There are very few ST specialist coaches in the universe.
We are limited to 9 coaches so we would have to give up one position coach and Lord knows we need every one.
It is up to the HC to make sure that the proper amount of time is spent on ST and that the coaches he assigns to each area of ST is following through and doing the job.
ST IMO is always on the HC. He emphasizes it or not.

Agree. So why not give the TE coach that responsibility like Casullo had? My God, two games in a row opening kickoff for a TD, plus the Duke game. Wth? Specials are 1/3 of the game, most games are won or lost by them. They need some work.

As bad as our KR coverage is...as bad as our PR coverage is...as bad as our PR team is...the team that looks like it practices the least is our KR. The plan seems to be put your head down and run straight to the closest pile and dive in.

Does BC have much better players for us? If Shafer doesn't see how bad we are on Special teams and do everything he can to fix it, he has no one to blame but himself when he gets the boot eventually
