Let's Play UB Every Year

If Buffalo wants to brand themselves New York's college team then it's time for them to step up to the plate and play SU every year in football. I would love to see us open with UB and Colgate every season.

That would work too. I would love to see us open with two teams from NYS.

It works for JB. Play as many NYS teams as possible and play them at home whenever possible. Buffalo, Army, Colgate and UCONN works for me, although Buttgers fans would argue that they are NYC's team.

There's nothing to gain for Syracuse. I'm sure UB has a lot of player who feel snubbed by Syracuse. The Bulls are also seen as second fiddle (if that) to the Orange. If we win, no one cares. If we lose, everyone points and laughs.

I'd rather play Army every year, alternating home and home, to open the season.

I went to a SU game at UB some years back. Great time. I'd love for a 2-1 type deal with UB every year.

UB is crap and gets us nothing. They can brand themselves whatever they like as no one will hear it anyway.

Play Army and keep flexibility on others.

I don't think playing UB does anything positive for Syracuse, but does legitimize UB.

Ugh, no.

Why are people so intent on having us play the same damn OOC opponents every year?

I think, though could be wrong, that the OP and others in the thread suggest that playing Upstate teams regularly is a possible way to promote the team in those Upstate markets, where the perceived hopes of increasing attendance lie, as folks have postulated here recently. Makes sense to me. We must schedule a couple FCS teams per year; why should they not be the ones in upstate NYS with whom SU had legit historical rivalries or at least played often back in the day. Unfortunately only Colgate, Buffalo, and Army are BCS level. Too bad we can't play URochester, Manhattan, Hobart, Albany, Binghamton, etc. anymore. Fire up Fordham, Hofstra, Stony Brook etc. instead.

Ny 1aa, army/navy, /temple/fiu/fau, + bcs team should be our ooc schedule every year. Would result in 2 or 3 home games depending on the year, have us playing in areas we recruit, and give us 3 very winnable games. You could play at the years bc is at the dome and likewise with florida state and the other florida schools.

I've often said this...
We're gonna play a Wagner type team every year, it might as well be Colgate. To many reasons to list. It would be a home game as colgates stadium as lovely as it is is too small.

Army is the perfect in state rivalry and it can be home/away. That place kicks ass and the whole experience I being at West Point for a game is amazing.

I def say Army. Michie Stadium is awesome. On the river and the pop and circumstance. Easy road game to get to. Also wldn't mind playing Navy as well.

Another perk about playing Army is their TV deal. They have all their home games televised on the CBS Sports Network.

UB is a tough one. Positives: Not only would boost attendance, but helps market us in the the state. Negatives: Legitimizes them. Bad, bad news if we lose.

As someone else pointed out before, Army likes to play a national schedule. Not sure they'd be interested in locking us in. Would be perfect, though.

Yeah playing UB god forbid we look good infront of all the potential recruits from the area we've lost out on. Ollison, Wheatley, etc. etc. from the Rochester/Buffalo/Niagara area.

A home and home with UB would help Syracuse. Of course you'll beat them.

Why would you EVER trade proven domination over another area of NY for a home and home with Army?

It'd do Syracuse good to maintain recruiting dominance over western ny before it tries for Yonkers/Brooklyn/NYC etc.

I'm talking more so towards football.

No home and home. Preferably a 3 to 1. Their stadium seats 15,000.

Why legitimize their program?

At their absolute best they could be the best of the group of five and get into the playoffs. They'll never be in a BCS conference, it will be like Marshall and WVU or Ohio State and Miami Ohio.

Won't get a 3 for 1 anymore. That was a one time good deal to get $15M from the state for the Dome Roof. I think we could ask and get a 2 for 1 though.

Putting aside the fact that you're ridiculously biased, PSU and Pitt have been pretty dominant in recruiting Western NY and I seemed to have missed the part where playing UB every year was so pivotal in that.

Kids in Buffalo aren't growing up Syracuse fans because a) they have the Bills and b) Syracuse hasn't been nationally relevant in 10 years. Any kid in Buffalo can put the TV on and catch a Syracuse game if they want to. What makes you think playing a game there once every 2 years is going to change anything? If Syracuse becomes nationally relevant again, it will solve the lack of attention issue from Western NY on its own, the program doesn't need UB for that, it just needs to win.

Incumbents do not want to debate contenders because they do not want to share the stage and elevate their competitors. Same thing with Buffalo. I would rather play Colgate or Army.

Army has always refused to schedule SU on an every year basis. They believe in playing an alternating national schedule. Therefore we can only get them about once every ten years or so.
I do not believe anything has changed in Army's scheduling philosophy. So thoughts of them on anywhere close to a regular basis is a fantasy.
