Look who my cousin and her daughter ran into at Wegmans...

CTO - Great story on Paul Newman. It reminded me of when my mother, who at the time worked in the football department up at SU (under Dick Kibney (sp?)), got to meet Paul Newman briefly downtown during the filming of the movie Slapshot.

You guys have such the wrong image of Jim. He's a totally normal/regular husband and father who does a lot of the grocery shopping, gets his hair cut at the local barbershop, helps his kids with their homework, walks the dog and goes to most of his kids' games (and among the three kids, they must be in a dozen different sports activities).
I remember before the 2003 NC game, JB was asked what he did on Monday afternoon before the game, he said "changing diapers", and was dead serious.

I was with Paul maybe 20 times. His wife and I were on a non-profit board together, so I saw them a lot. In retrospect, I wish just once I had asked him for 20 seconds of his time to pose for a picture with me, but it just didn't seem appropriate. So I never did it.

Funny story. My friend Barbara Boeheim (Jim's sister) was visiting one weekend, and Paul and Joanne Woodward were walking towards us at an outdoor restaurant. Barbara said: "Is that Paul Newman?" I said: "Yes. Would you like to meet him?" So I made eye contact with Joanne... .and they came to our table... and Barbara got to meet them. So I did interrupt their privacy just once in all those years... to introduce them to a friend... but I never did it to have a picture taken with me.

i think dos equis needs to reconsider who the most interesting person in the universe is...

What's with that guy and Wegman's? In my four years at SU, the only time i ever saw JB outside of the dome was in a Wegman's parking lot.

Saw him this afternoon at a youth basketball game.

My daughter coached AAU basketball this year and JB was in attendance at the tourneys in which his daughter played. Just being a good dad :)

Kind of a related sidenote since Pete Calvin brought the subject up:

My daughter is also the ass't varsity coach at the high school where she teaches. The head coach is Faye Young Miller, and she was one half of the many sets of Doublemint twins, along with her sister Kaye. Kaye was married to Bill Cowher, and died of cancer a few years ago. They both played for Kay Yow at NC State, and as most know, Kay also died of breast cancer a few years ago as well. My daughter's team participated in events for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, specifically the Play4Kay basketball tournament. Faye is a wonderful woman and mentor, and just as beautiful as she was back in the day!

Thank you for not posting it. We've had enough pictures of Jim napping in public. ;)

So you got that going for you, which is nice. Someone had to do it...

Kind of a related sidenote since Pete Calvin brought the subject up:

Pete's experiencing what is clearly a disturbing case of transference aside, he and I did briefly date twins in college. Well, actually, Pete had a long relationship with one girl. I had a short fling with her twin sister. Or maybe with Pete's girlfriend. But probably both. I couldn't tell them apart, and, like the one that dated Pete, wasn't too terribly discriminating. Somehow, Pete landed the current Mrs.PeteCalvin, a genuine babe with a great personality, and apparently a sense of smell as poor as her eyesight.

I've not seen JB out and about, but if I did, he strikes me as the sort who would prefer to be left alone, or if engaged in conversation, would rather discuss anything other than his team with pesky fans. Who among us really enjoys shop talk in their off hours?
