He is way to fragile.I've been very vocal on Wilson's issues. But in Babers we trust - his track record with QB's is beyond solid.

I don't think he can take the pounding.To BillOrange44:
Wilson was asked to do things under Shafer not in his skill set...the kid could be a viable backup in HCDB'ers system. We won't know until Summer camp...
I thought Mahoney was much better than Wilson. He's a much better option than Zach Mahoney, or burning Rex's RS season.
Mahoney couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a beach ball. He could run but this position doesn't need a runner anymore.I thought Mahoney was much better than Wilson.
He throws the most accurate ball on the team and has the strongest arm. If he can master the O he will do fine
Well, the QB position in this offense doesn't require a runner. And hopefully the ball moves through the air with such ease that the defense can only rush 4 (or 3), which allows the QB to keep his nose clean.I don't think he can take the pounding.
Strongest arm I can agree with, but most accurate ball.. not so much IMO.
I have no freaking clue where the accuracy comments are coming from.

Yes, he was just awful against LSU! Close game as I remember. His passing accuracy was pretty good too.Mahoney couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a beach ball. He could run but this position doesn't need a runner anymore.
You need to go watch the tape again, he threw a ton of balls into the ground. He was 16/38 154 yards, that's not pretty good. Sure he made some nice throws that turned into TD's. I get it we all love Zack for how he stepped up against the big boys and gave us hope. Unless he has improved his accuracy he will be number 3, we are not a run option team anymore.Yes, he was just awful against LSU! Close game as I remember. His passing accuracy was pretty good too.
I think Wilson is more suited for Colgate or Holy Cross. Zack Mahoney at least had two years playing at the junior college level.I don't get how so many board "Experts" can say that Wilson cannot be the #2 QB. He has little experience and is still young. The little time he played he had some good moments. Outside the Duke game in which he was bad (although I believe he was still hurt and at the very least we had a mash unit for an OL that day). Are people giving up on a kid based just on that game?
And Wilson did what when? Had Wilson started that game, well, It was much better with Mahoney. You need to go watch the tape again, he threw a ton of balls into the ground. With that offense sure. I was talking to your point that Mahoney's passing accuracy was pretty good. Wilson was a square being pushed into a round whole with the past offenses. And Wilson did what when? Had Wilson started that game, well, It was much better with Mahoney.
Ryan Nassib ran a version of the zone-read at times and did just fine. Wilson runs as well as Nassib and has similar arm strength. So why no success? With that offense sure. I was talking to your point that Mahoney's passing accuracy was pretty good. Wilson was a square being pushed into a round whole with the past offenses.
So you are sure Wilson will do good in this new Baber offense? Well hey maybe and if it doesn't work they can just come up with another and then another until they find one suited for him. Why not? With that offense sure. I was talking to your point that Mahoney's passing accuracy was pretty good. Wilson was a square being pushed into a round whole with the past offenses.
First off I love Zach and all he did for the team, I've never bashed him nor was I. I was pointing out how ridiculous of statement it was to say he was pretty good at passing when in fact it was less then 50% completion.Ryan Nassib ran a version of the zone-read at times and did just fine. Wilson runs as well as Nassib and has similar arm strength. So why no success?
Because, to this point in his career, he simply hasn't been able to grasp offensive concepts and make proper reads. Having a strong arm doesn't mean you possess accuracy. None of us are at practices, so we really have no way of knowing if Austin throws an accurate ball.
Hopefully, the light bulb will turn on for AW in Dino's system and the staff can RS Rex. I said it before...never count out Zach. The kid is a winner and improved his throwing accuracy with each start.
Okay you've gone down your own road with this. I never said Wilson would be good in any system. I pointed out facts, which I know is crazy to do on the internet. You made a statement that Mahoney was passing well when he couldn't even complete 50% of his passes in the game.So you are sure Wilson will do good in this new Baber offense? Well hey maybe and if it doesn't work they can just come up with another and then another until they find one suited for him. Why not?
"A square pushed through a round hole with that offense." So what do they do if he doesn't fit Baber's scheme in a game situation? I am only going by what I saw last year. I have not seen what is in the future. I was going by the players (Wilson) skill and I find it lacking. Believe me, I am not alone in my thinking.Okay you've gone down your own road with this. It is unfair to compare Nassib to Wilson. Nassib is a NFL caliber QB and Wilson is clearly not.
It's simple really Wilson will be the back up this because he is more accurate then Zach.[/QUOTE
And others are not alone in their thinking that Wilson can fit this scheme better than Mahoney and find Mahoney's skill lacking. So now what?"A square pushed through a round hole with that offense." I find Zach's skill set lacking. I watched him play and I loved what he did for us, but I don't have blind loyalty to a player because he was fun to watch or "gutsy". Our lack of QB depth is scary that we are trying to pick our back up over a JC player that is a walk on and a kid that should be playing at a lower level."A square pushed through a round hole with that offense." Pray ED doesn't get hurt. And others are not alone in their thinking that Wilson can fit this scheme better than Mahoney and find Mahoney's skill lacking. So now what?
