lost in this whole mess was the fact

that the two freshmen D.Ends who failed multiple drug tests before halfway through their true freshmen season.

I think Shafer lost control of this team from the Seniors on down. The seniors should have read the riot act to these two players after the first fail. How could these kids not know that there would be follow ups...mind boggling to think about that.Either they just didn't care or someone was telling them there would be no follow ups. If I failed a single drug test I would be gone before the next word would come out of my mouth. No second chances for me.

There was no commitment by these two and the next coach does not have to accept them back and now you have a former Q.B. that seems to be enjoying this mess for personal reason.

Our strongest o-lineman was a walk-on player this year which I am sure it's something that doesn't happen very often at a P5 school. To me one of the very most important piece of the puzzle to any successful D-1 is to have a solid S&C PROGRAM where the upperclass lineman have developed to the point to where there stomachs flatten out, instead it seems our lineman seem to be overlapping more and more as the years go on.

This trend has carried on and on as the coaching staff changes every few years. Villanova owned our line even while being out weighed by about 40 lb. across the line. There needs to be wholesale changes there too.

Truthfully I think there was a lot more turmoil going on behind the scenes than what's being said in public and I think Orgeron might have the cache' to clean this mess up as I really don't know much about the others involved.I never would have thought about Ed O as being a head coach here.
Total BS you have no idea what you are talking about

And by dumb decisions we mean what 80% of the student population is also doing and is legal in like 4 states.

perspective

Well, not all college students are players for P5 programs who get free rides and have team cooks who cook their comfort food to keep them plump and happy and all the other perks they receive compared to the paying student.

Does the Colorado coaches allow their players to openly smoke dope before or after practice?

As with any organization not firing on all cylinders...there are some behind the scenes things...most of it is normal team dynamics crap...but it didn't help. It isn't my place to air it publically as what I heard was 2nd hand and frankly we don't need to over-analyze this stuff...in public.

Time to move onward...Coach Shafer and his staff were good people.

look, I have always been in Shafers camp and have not called for his firing,Hicks and Reed yes I have. But by these two failing multiples in such a short time being here did not look good to the A.D. AT ALL. Was not sole reason why he got fired, but everything does add up.

Like Coyle said,"there was a lack of leadership" which tells me as Shafer needed to lean on the captains and the captains needed to lean on those two and others. They left this team in a huge void the last two weeks by being suspended.

This was not by far the only reason why he got fired, but this just added to it and I think it needed to be brought out. How often have you read here me getting on the kids asses about anything.Very rare I would say.
A lot here just kept repeating how Dungey and how Shafer played him late in the game to take another brutal hit was a reason,so was this. Selfish act and the next coach has the choice to keep them as this is a character issue. Some can disagree with this, well that's their choice.

I don't put the blame for those on Shafer...he barely took over the program...sad those kids threw away there future.

I get what you are saying, but he was their defensive coordinator and Cusian was just trying to point out there was very little issues. Sometimes people forgot about the other stuff that some time seems to cure memories.

Broyld and Williams were not let go for being choir boys.

My feelings on drug use

The players are read the rules...made very clear.
The consequences are listed:
Once is correctable...twice is a problem in the same season.

Either the Seniors didn't set the example or there are two selfish knuckleheads...

It is a privilege to play Football not a right.

So it's on him from when he was the DC? So it's not Marrone then for those ones? Ok, so this new stuff with Sheppard and Ealy is on Bullough.

Well, he also had issues with Ashton Broyld and Wayne Williams, but the fact that they were dismissed seems to at least partially refute the OP.
Broyld admitted today that his issue was academics and he was given every opportunity to correct what was needed to stay at SU and he didn't comply. He had to leave as he was ineligible, wasn't Shafer's decision'

My last post on this thread...

Let's all move on here...not sure this is doing any good. I think internally there were some team issues...but that is everywhere. I don't put the blame on any one area. The house will mostly be emptied...sadly some really good folks will move on...but it is the dirty side of P5 Football. Let the AD make his moves...hopefully the BoT gives the $$$ to hire a great P5 coach and staff...time to look forward!

Keep stretching. Yes it falls on Marrone for Spruill and Rene ultimately,Walls and Brewster, Shafer was their head coach and was also their D.C. for a time also. The D.C'S spend more time with their players on their side of the ball than the head coach. You should even know that.

So lets play the stretch game here, their failed tests had no impact "at all" on this team even though the team was extremely short along the defensive line the last two games? Is that what your are implying, I say it did with out a doubt and these kids showed promise. The next coach does not have to keep them

I wanted Shafer to stay, but I am not in mourning at all over his being let go.Coyle for reasons said..." lack of leadership"

I thought I read that but don't don't remember academics being mentioned.

Speaking of S&C, I hope Hicks is finally replaced with someone who knows how to teach a proper squat.

Literally LOLd

Was definitely academics. He said Shafer had no choice in the matter and had to kick him off the team.

You can think what you want, those players earned their suspensions like the others who got the boot. The players here lost control and did not respect the other players and the staff. Twist all you want.

Coyle even said their was a leadership problem,go argue with him
"I want to thank Scott, his wife Missy, and their family for their seven years of dedication and service to SU Athletics and Syracuse University. Scott has worked tirelessly to educate our students on and off the field and to build our program. However, I feel a change in leadership is needed at this time. A national search will begin immediately," Coyle said.

Other than the implied 'it's time to try something different', Where did Coyle say there was a leadership problem?

Did he say academics? Where did I read that anyways?
