lost in this whole mess was the fact

Was definitely academics. He said Shafer had no choice in the matter and had to kick him off the team.
Can't be on the team if you're no longer enrolled in school.

Interesting thread. Though Coyle didn't specifically say there was a 'leadership problem' per se, the fact that he chose to say that he felt 'a change in leadership was needed' speaks for itself, in my opinion. He could have just as easily said (after the thanking of SS for 7 years, etc. etc.) go in a different direction, time for a change, etc. He chose to specifically use the word leadership...

I see what you're saying, but phrases like going in a different direction and time for change could be things that may possibly be addressed without dismissing the head coach. Using the word leadership doesn't really leave a lot of room for conjecture. Well, until this thread I'd imagine. :)

This parsing of words is the most tortured bit of over-analysis I can recall, even for this board. This is man bites dog- new AD fires a losing football coach he didn't hire- wants to get his guy in-end of story.

I agree. I partook, but I agree.

Yes 18-20 years smoking weed means you lost control of the team. Really are you that disconnected? I remember being at a college party when I was in college (mid 90's) and watching our star football player, who would later become a 1st round draft pick, and a few other players smoking.
Hey, all I know is that Ithaca College was undefeated until Shafer went and watched his kid play. Coincidence? I think not.
FIRE SHAFER...oh wait...nevermind
