Pitino and the majority of the Louisville fan base have been touting this unfairness to current players and especially the two Senior transfers. It's really not that unfair. Louisville did something wrong and apparently very wrong.

Louisville's beloved athletic director, and not so beloved president, saw the evidence and realized they would be getting severely punished. Assuming non of the current players were at fault, Ville could have waited out the NCAA investigation which would have gone beyond season end. Their current team would have played in the NCAA's. Next year's team likely would not have. They, and they alone, chose to take the penalty this year. By doing this they:
  • hope to save their recruiting class
  • hope to limit future penalties
  • hope to save 2013 championship banner by showing how much of a sacrifice they made
  • limit transfers since they would hope to be eligible next year
Louisville sacrificed now to save their future and also to try and save a pretty big event that occurred in 2013. If I were the two transfers I would be much more upset at Louisville's leaders as opposed to the NCAA. Ville made a calculated decision and the right decision, given the circumstances. Lee and Lewis are the poster boys for this unfairness but the Ville decision makers are directly responsible for it.

Cuse!

I agree with most of this. Clearly, Lee / Lewis are the ones who take this on the chin, but that self-imposed penalty was imposed by the institution, not the NCAA.

The question is whether or not their infractions are significant enough to warrant additional post-season restrictions. Hard to tell with the NCAA, who are capricious and arbitrary in how they enforce, and not bound by precedence in terms of severity of penalties.

Lee and Lewis are the only losers in this I feel bad for. The University is your right trying to save the 2013 NC and beg the NCAA for leniency. I highly doubt they will be eligible next year as well. They will get hit with lost scholarships atleast equal to what Syracuse lost and Pitino knows a suspension is coming his way.

Louisville screwed Lee and Lewis. That is really it. I don't blame the University for being proactive but Pitino screwed those kids over.

The fact North Carolina hasn't done ANYTHING proactively really tells me they don't think they are getting the hammer. Or maybe they just this last year with a chance at the title.

UNC should get double what we got. That is why I think JB and SU should sue the NCAA.

Or that UNC apologists have their heads buried in the sand despite the fact that the tsunami is headed their way.

I think it is primarily that, with some arrogance / denial mixed in. But I will say this: if UNC skates, then the NCAA sham will be fully exposed, and their time masquerading as an effectual governing body needs to come to an abrupt, resounding end.

Mark Emmert epitomizes their ineffectual approach, and his attempt to pigeon hole UNC's issues as "not in the NCAA wheelhouse" is blatantly intellectually dishonest. For if nearly two decades of academic cheating on this grand of a scale is tolerated by a governing body that feigns to be about amateur athletics, then the myriad of penny ante rules that the NCAA comes after schools with sure as hell shouldn't matter, either. They are treading on dangerous ground.

UNC Football should get a 5 year bowl ban.
UNC Basketball should get a 5 year tourney ban
Louisville should get 2 or 3.

If it doesn't happen someone here should sue. Not sure why it hasn't happened already. Maybe making sure UNC gets what they deserve?

Like i said in another thread Lee and Lewis should have done a little more research when they choose Louisville.

Really there was at least 1 player implicated Harrell on last years roster.

BTW, IT'S A JOKE THE NORTH CAROLINA PENALTIES HAVE NOT BEEN HANDED OUT YET.

2 or 3 years for some hookers? Come on...

The transgressions at Louisville took place between 2010 and 2014. Every player on their team right now, with maybe the exception of the two transfers, potentially benefited from the activities in question. I have no problem whatsoever for the current players on that team and think it is appropriate. And, if the NCAA is consistent, they will forfeit every game in that period in which players who received the improper benefits played, including the championship game, if applicable.

Couldn't they just offer hookers to all students?

We had how many wins taken away? because a supposed third party was paying our players and there was ZERO evidence of it.

So if there's evidence, yes I believe they should get more than us. That's a recruiting violation, something we had none of.

What exactly is this research that they should have done? Should they have gotten their private investigators license and gone looking for things they would have had no knowledge of? Should they have built a time machine to see something bad would hit the program months after they had already been enrolled?

So because we were wronged means they should be? We'll end up getting our wins back, we've already got some scholarships back and we missed a post season we may not have even gotten into.

The investiagtion into Syracuse wasn't just about a few bucks put in kids pockets, it was about academic fraud as well. I'm not saying what we did was worse or less worse, but in all reality what we did and the Ville did aren't that big of deals in my opinion, they don't deserve to be out of the post season for 3 years, if it was us hiring ladies of the night for our guys I don't think you would be calling for Syracuse to lose 3 years of post season play.

Like I said Harrell was on the team last year as was Rozier. They didn't talk or maybe other players on the team this year who might not been named could have took part also.

I'm sure Lee and Lewis went on visits to the campus meeting and talking with their possible future teammates (like i said some of who might have known of these parties and activities) and if they didn't say anything.

I find it hard to believe. Maybe they were expecting the same treatment who knows once they were committed and on campus.

I really REALLY liked this post!

In regard to the OP, the Lville AD and President took the action now as an attempt to beg for mercy from the NCAA. We did the exact same thing. If the NCAA weren't such such arbitrary bullies, with ineffective and unjust "punishments," we wouldn't have to go toadying about attempting to curry favor. I liked what Pitino said: let the punishment be about MONEY. But I'm sure that would be arbitrary, too. I don't know what is the right thing to do. I just know what I don't like.

The vacated wins preceded the academic fraud. That was about pot and money from the YMCA. We were under investigation when the Fab stuff came about. Why we cheated when we were already under investigation was incredibly dumb, that's been spoken about.

I agree with most of your post, you say three years in too much, ok let's make it two.

If you're going to hit Syracuse and SMU, you better hit everyone else as well.

And if this was systemic they deserve a bigger penalty.

Did you investigate the TSA before you accepted your job?

How do you know one of your colleagues isn't trafficking Drugs through the airport?

If there's anyone who could do it, it's the TSA? You might go down with the ship if you don't catch them.

I don't work for TSA.

The 'Ville will get hit with the dreaded 'lack of institutional control' along with improper benefits and who knows what else. They could be looking at a year of probation and one more post season ban at the least.
