LSU Swamp Thread

Woodward has a track record of owing enormous sums to bad coaches. He is on his way out. When a few more ADs who overpay for poor coaching get canned, we may see a little more stability.

P.S. FSU, take note, get rid of the one who negotiates bad deals for coaching. And lose the coach.

He may end up back there
As a DT coach. Ed was fired because he wasn't winning anymore first and foremost but his conduct off the field wasn't great either, he also went through a messy divorce and Eddie O loves the ladies. He hit on the wrong lady as well. In addition, Eddie O is loved by the LSU masses not as much by the LSU decision makers. Now, we all know if he continued to win it all would have been swept under the rug. As he ages, he's really just a cartoon character/ folk hero. Maybe he gets a look at the Tulane job when Sumrall leaves? At the end of the day, Eddie O isn't a very good head coach, great recruiter sure but there's more to it than that.

He isn’t a very good coach but he won a national championship?

correct. Great recruiter assembled one of the most talented rosters in recent memory at LSU. Gene Chizik won a national championship at Auburn as well
You can have all the talent in the world, but that talent still has to be developed and produce on the field. He’s a great coach — he’s already proven that by winning a national championship. Look at Alabama last year: they had the most talented roster in college football, but did they win the national title? No, because talent alone isn’t enough. You still have to develop players and execute when it matters. So again the take that he isn’t a great coach just ain’t true in my opinion.

so then Gene Chizik is a great coach then too?

What matters are the assistants … the coordinators. Look at Clemson since Venables left. Eddie O lost Brady and Aranda and proceeded to fall apart. The coordinators are more critical than the talent. You think it’s a coincidence Bama looks better on O now that Grubb is play calling?

It all matters and the guy in charge is the one who takes the heat or gets the credit. Eddie O never replaced coordinators, a couple of hall of fame receivers and a heisman QB and acted like an idiot throughout the process. Saban, Kirby? Well the resumes speaks for themselves. Ryan Day at Ohio St as well. Eddie O is a cartoon character, a sideshow.

Dan Lanning at Oregon has replaced coordinators already, hasn't won a national championship yet but if you think Eddie O is a better coach than Dan Lanning well I don't know what to tell you.

You proved my point .. Eddie O had top shelf coordinators .. Lanning doesn't. Didn't Ryan Day also go out and get Chip Kelly and Jim Knowles to break through?

LOL. He has arguably the best OC in college football in Will Stein. He had Kenny Dillingham at ASU now before that. I would take either over Joe Brady, you apparently don't watch the Buffalo Bills very much this year.

His D Coordinator has been same since the day he was hired but that's Lanning's side of the ball.

Yeah his coordinators aren't top shelf? Please

Lanning was the D Coordinator under Kirby Smart as well.

I did say it all matters but your statement that Lanning doesn't have great coordinators is insane. And again, if you think Eddie O is a better head coach than Lanning well that would be insane as well
