Luke Carney

And a fairly typical SU season.

The McCord year looks more and more miraculous.
Well, kinda, yeah.

He obliterated our all-time record book and we've never had the #1 passing offense in all of college football.

Everyone is missing the big picture. Right now, Narduzzi is salivating about October 18th at 7:30 pm. He gave McCord fits last year and will really dial it up for this game with a struggling quarterback to go against. Personally I think Coach Brown is between a rock and a hard place. Either option against Narduzzi is going to be a monumental struggle. I also worry about playing Pittsburgh off a bye, especially if Collins looks the same in practice. In my humble opinion a true miracle needs to happen in the next two weeks. Let’s hope we get one. Go Orange!!!!

A couple years ago, before NIL, giving Rickie time would be understandable.

Now though with our money being put into these players NIL, brushing off the outside noise and sticking with a clearly incompetent QB is a spit in the face to us fans. I feel like Im burning my money watching our QB overthrow our WRs by 10 yards, or throwing to the other team.
Im not saying that Carney, Williams, Belin are better but to not atleast test it after having trouble scoring against SMUs defense, is infuriating.

A fairly typical record, sure, but it's not like this season will blend in with other 4-8 type performances.

When you put it in perspective, Steve going down is probably the most impactful injury we've had this century. Maybe ever.
Other than the Covid year the last 4-8 season was 2017. I wouldn’t say it’s typical at all.

This isn’t much different than Dungey getting knocked out, just timing. SU was 6-0 before Shrader got lit up vs Clemson, 4-0 the year after that and guess what, lit up by Clemson. Shrader didn’t get knocked out for the year, but he missed multiple games and was seriously degraded in the rest.

Sagarin has the Pitt game as a “pickem” right now. Nothing monumental. A pure coin flip. Nixon with 2 weeks. I think we’ll be ok.

Not only was Collins bad in the two games he started and in the Clemson game and on the first drive against Colgate. He was also so bad that they didn't play him in the Spring Game, err thumb injury and Trebor Pena left specifically mentioning how playing with Ricky would ruin his season.

...I hope Ricky doesn't check this board. He's probably a nice kid but this is a cutthroat performance based business.

Exactly this.

And that’s my reference point for calling it a typical SU season.

We have one QB who can play. He gets hurt. And now the offense is in the hands of guys who, to be blunt, cannot play.

We can go back to Bill Hurley’s cracked ribs against FSU.

(That said, historically we did pretty well getting 3 great running QBs - McPherson, Graves, McNabb - through seasons intact.)

If Angeli is here 2 more, when does carney play? Can’t imagine he waits around 3 total years to get his chance.

Well we have to hope that Angeli's recovery goes well first and also that another school doesn't poach him if healthy. Lots of moving parts but yeah there would be no way Carney waits around for three seasons.

A lot of moving parts here. If McCord had gotten injured, Fran might have been coaching for his job in 2025 and 2026. Instead, we went 10-3 and Syracuse is trying to keep him from leaving. If Fran is truly here for the long-term, then I think you let him decide how to handle this issue. If he thinks playing Carney will waste his development, and not bring much upside anyway, why should he do so?

Have to disagree, after all what’s the point of having this board if we can’t make important decisions like who should play QB.

Most of us assume he is loyal because he did not bench Angeli against UConn... a move most of us now regret having wished for. Or, maybe Fran just knows that QB 1> QB 2 > QB 3 > QB 4. Which is why he has them ranked... there is an order. I am sure he is not TRYING to lose games. If he thinks Collins gives the team the best chance to win, then that is his call. If the team thinks Carney is the better QB, that it is his problem to deal with. If the team is just frustrated because Collins just cannot do the things Angeli and McCord did... everyone needs to get over it... include the O.C., who now has to REALLY earn this pay check.
It’s not an assumption, Fran told us he is loyal and that’s where the concern arises. Will he be loyal to playing Rickie for too long when he is not getting the job done?

This. I don't see why we can't - at a minimum - rotate him in for a series each half and play it by ear.
Similar to what Doug Marrone did with Greg Paulus and Ryan Nassib.
Definitely worth a shot if he intends to keep Rickie as the new QB1.
