Luke Carney

I haven't and won't watch Carney's high school highlights, but if he looks of the secondary even once or does a check down in even one clip...I want him on the field as our QB1.
he sure does, pump fakes, look offs, scans the field in the pocket and when scrambling, hitting secondary and tertiary receiving options. I finally had to watch them and see what the hype was. It seems legit. Again the only concern is can he do it vs. power 4 teams. I think so.

Obviously a different level, but definitely skills Rickie doesn’t possess or maybe he just isn’t comfortable yet. Either way, I’d love to see what Carney has.

It is a highlight tape though. Not seeing the interceptions, incomplete passes, or sacks. Let's see some whole game tapes for Carney.

Collins has had a few nice passes. Mix in a few nice runs and you can start to put together his highlight tape. Would be kind of misleading without all the other bad plays. Edit: One Exists:

OMG

I think people take fran's 'loyalty' remarks as he's a little too locked in on Rickie, or was locked in on Steve

Fran is loyal, but he's also no dummy. He wants to win football games. If Luke Carney gives him a better chance to win than Rickie, he's going to play Luke.

The fact that we haven't seen Luke should tell you he's not ready.
Yeah he has a great HS track record, but this is D1 Football. Rickie is likely further along and has a better grasp on our playbook than Luke does. That doesn't mean I love what I see from Rickie... but the back up QB is at their most popular when the starter underperforms

How many of us called for Rickie when Angeli struggled against UConn? Would you make those same comments with hindsight?

I think Luke has the tools to be a great QB.. but that doesn't mean he's our best option right now

Establish the run, design quick and winnable throws, don't turn the ball over, and prevent redzone trips. There's a lot we can improve on no matter who the QB is, that will make their life easier

I say all this as someone who wanted to see Luke during the Duke and SMU games.
Sorry, this is wishful thinking, speculation and rationalization. We really don’t know how limited Fran is by his “loyalty” or what his decision making process is.
We don’t know if Carney is ready or not, but we have seen enough of Collins to know he is not the answer.

All I can say is if Carney "isn't ready" and yet he beat out Jakhari, then what the heck is going on with QB room? Someone shat the bed something fierce
