Luke Carney

You got to give Carney the start this week. Collins just isn't it. He has a great arm and throws a good spiral but that is where the platitudes end.
At this point it would be nice to stop with the Rickie experiment. But it seems Fran is to stubborn to make a change.
Would rather Luke get all the first team reps this week, and play him against Georgia Tech and hope he survives.
I think a lot of the holding calls in recent games are the team has no confidence in Rickie to make a play.

Based on what I watched last night it is all mental with Collins. He made a couple good plays but then he would literally just stop focus and toss a head scratching play right after. I don’t think that’s coachable though, and I just don’t see him as figuring it out here. Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t see it getting any better.

This season is shot already, why burn Carney's redshirt? Angeli comes back next year and has two years of eligibility remaining. Luke, will have used up one year, sits behind Angeli for two years, and has only one year to start, if another QB hasn't been brought in and beats him out. What is the upside of playing Carney now? Is he going to beat Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, or Miami? Is he going to beat out Angeli next year? Even if he gets experience and gets over his learning curve this year, who among us would not want to see the Cuse bring in a portal QB next year to challenge Angeli? With the injury to angeli, and the poor play of Collins, our QB situation is in a difficult place because you need two game ready QB's to prevent what we are seeing now.

Enough with the redshirt nonsense. He’ll eventually have 5 to play 5.

He can redshirt next year behind angeli giving him two years to play. We need him now.

Redshirts mean little now a days. Odds of Carney staying four years and needing a fifth are very low, If he can get us a couple of W's and into a bowl game it is worth the burn.

I assume everyone else also got the Nunes vibes when he came in? Small QB, quick feet, weak(ish) looking arm with a long delivery. And wears #11?

Luke should just look at Nunes' wife and say well at least this story can end well.
Not sure how you can judge his arm strength based on the plays he was given to run. The coaches only prepared him for a limited number of plays.

Luke didn't exactly look like the second coming of Eric Dungey but I think you have start mixing him in for whole series' next game. He can absolutely fly so give him some RPO and option packages. Put pressure on Rickie to perform. When Dungey was successful, his running just created total havoc and guys would be open downfield. He threw some picks, and it was always pretty pitch and catch like McCord but it won games and demoralized teams.

We're just wasting all these stud receivers when every pass is behind them or five yards over their head. We need to figure out how to rework our offense on the fly to a dual threat, run to set up the pass attack. Rickie is quick and fast but it's not his first instinct. If he can't throw accurately when 3 WRs are on the field, maybe switch to the I or Pro-Set and either use a fullback or 2nd half back to create opportunities for option plays, short passes and open holes for Yasim. Getting first downs is just too difficult without the consistent accuracy. The issue isn't receivers being open, it's getting the ball to them.

Right now it feels hopeless this year but we're not quite at Dan Villari wildcat time. Whether it's Luke or Rickie, the 10 other guys on offense need to step up to salvage this year. We can't lose to Belichick with his girlfriend on the sidelines in a slutty nurse costume.

The Redshirt talk is not nonsense!. Even if he gets 5 to play 5, which isn't a guarantee at this point, why waiste one of those years on a season going nowhere? When Angeli was playing bad at the start of the season, there were actually fans, calling for Ricky from the stands...fans know nothing..but they talk like they do. these same fans...that were screaming for Ricky(Including media talking heads, like Axe), are now screaming for Carney...I get it, the number 2 always look "all world" ,when the number 1 is playing bad. Our reality is that we have no P4 caliber QB on the roster, who can go out and win games! The signing of Ricky Collins was a huge MISS! Imagine what this season would look like, if we didn't get Angeli? Fran recognized the Collins miss and went out and got Angeli. If he didn't get hurt, we would not be having this conversation. The Coaches want to win and i believe they would put Cinderella out there if they thought she would help us win. There is a reason why Carney is not starting or playing more and the people's who's job and reputation are on the line, are the ones who know best.

Because players want to believe they still have something to play for. That each game is winnable and the coaches are doing their best to win NOW. It's that simple.

The problem is you are saying that Collins runs' Nixon's offense better, when the problem is that Nixon's offense does not fit anyone other than Angeli. The offense needs to change. At least when Carney is in, Nixon does change the plays. When Collins comes back in, we go back to trying to force Collins to make plays he cannot make reliably.

We had a bye week to change the offense to fit the mobility that both Collins and Carney bring to the table. Instead, we wasted two more weeks thinking that Collins could run it when he just can't do it. This is GRob level foolishness at this point. Not sure GRob's WCO offense was good. At least we know that Nixon's system is great.

But it just does not work for every, or in this case any healthy, QB on this roster. I am sure that there are QB#2's in the portal this year who can run it better than Collins. Perhaps Carney can run it next year. But that does not help us today. Nixon needs to radically alter the offense, and now he only gets a few days to do it (making it unlikely).

Play everyone. He needs reps to prepare for next year.

Yes. The only people staying here for 5 years are the people who haven't had any success on the field in the first 4.

The days of preserving a redshirt so you can have another 5th year McNabb are dead and buried. It's just taking a long time to get people out of that mindset.

Yeah red shirts are obsolete in the portal era. Kids want to play. Teams want to win.

If Carney starts as a frosh and makes it, he should declare before 5. If he doesn't make it, a redshirt would only help whatever G5 school he transfers out to, and that assumes 5 to play 5 doesn't happen by then. It's not our concern and I doubt it's his either.

Get Carney some 3rd and long reps stat.

Do you really think Carney has shown something in practice that warrants starting him versus the current starter is so bad, anybody has to be better. That is the mindset people seem to have as opposed to our entire QB room is not very capable of winning a game and Ricky is the best of the bunch. I love the Orange..and this is a really bad place to be..middle of the season, you lost your starting QB, and the next men up...don't seem very capable...and you have a difficult schedule ahead. The Coach said what this season is about in the Presser after the Pitt game: We are a young team...and we have to develop! That is what the remainder of this season is about. I am not saying that...Coach Fran said it!
