Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.

A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
'is it to be or not to be'
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please
...and you can do the same thing if you please

Actually, George Morgan played father Mulcahey for part of the first season, before being replaced by William Christopher.

Andrew Dice Clay as Corporal Hrabosky.

I'm way too young to be saying this, but MASH is, and always has been, my favorite TV show ever. I did a report on Alan Alda in 9th grade and the teacher tried to fail me because I left out "how he died". I argued with her for a while that he was still alive, but she wouldn't believe me. This was back before the google days.

Great TV show that holds up incredibly well.

Also, one of my favorite movies ever.

I'm of the same generation so I can relate. What an awful situation! How did we handle that when someone was blatantly wrong about something but we didn't have the internet immediately at our disposal to prove it? Guess you just have to take one for the team and get over it.

I'm pretty sure my dad gave her a call lol

One of the few shows that really changed their tone mid-stream too. Once Linville tapped out the sit-com almost became more of a drama.

I'm sure Burghoff was thrilled playing an 18 year old Corporal when he was in his late 30's.

Insults were usually the way to go, in my experience.

I thought it went down hill after McLean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers left. It never had the pizzaz it did the first three years.

I think losing Larry Linville was the final straw, and then they turned it from an anti-war comedy to a show about social issues. It became preachy. Seemed like Mike Farrell really got his hooks into the story lines.

To me, it was one of the few shows that improved with cast changes.

I couldn't disagree more. Not that the changes were bad but that the original was just so much better. Trapper was just so much better than BJ.

Each to their own. Somehow the show lasted 11 years and the most popular TV episode of all time was the last one.

lol I could have starred in that episode and it would have been the most watched episode ever. I could have been the one armed man in the last episode of the Fugitive and that would have been. Some episodes are destined to be watched.

But...has anyone read the books?? Apparently a 15 book series!!
