Friend of a friend of a friend

Said DB has his heart set on proving people wrong (im guessing his offense?)

Friend is big USC booster, played golf with last weekend, was pretty inebriated but nonetheless

Cal or Carolina

The NFL is not hiring a coach who will be in his late 50s to run an air raid offense. Not happening. Lots of younger choices and more importantly that offense is not going to work in the NFL.

It is not his offense it is Briles offense and he is always giving him credit.

Im confident you get the point
Just relaying what was told to me by someone who pays more for football than i make in a year

if he wants the NFL he has to do really well at a school like SU and perhaps do well at a step higher too.. that puts him into his 60's before he gets there.

If Babers wants in the NFL he would be better off becoming an OC now and show his system works in the NFL.

I don't doubt he would like it and he put Jimmy Garropolo into the league but he isn't going to be an NFL HC by coaching where he has. Doug Marrone has the NFL background and Sean Payton/Bill Parcells helped him to get his job. Greg Schiano had Bill Belichick's endorsement.

Dino Babers is a college HC he could be an NFL OC but he isn't going to the NFL IMO.

If Babers goes, then we just get another Baylor guy. We will be the northeast baylor. even if everyone else runs that offense, Pitt, CCNJ, and BC aren't likely to. If you run the right offense, you have built in stability. The dome and the pro-style of inklings of meatheads elsewhere will allow us to be unique. FINALLY
Exactly. In 2-3 years, the hot prospects will include whoever replaces Frost at Oregon, Frost himself, Babers replacement at BG, staff who left Baylor because their last name isn't Briles, and maybe some other Chip Kelly/Mike Leach disciples. Any of which could hit the ground running here with a Babers-built team. Or they might be more attractive to some schools than a HC closing in on 60.

That's plenty of candidates for the portion of schools that opt for that scheme, not to mention all the others that rise up from the D side or ground & pound backgrounds.

exactly.

not unless he just won a NC.

im not sure that if babers has success here, he will ever find a better job.

the factorys are no longer in the business of hiring old men to right their ship, so why start over at another Tier 2 (or 3 if you believe some folk) P5 when you are already winning at Syracuse??

i guess if he wants to go to Arizona at 60...let him, for by then i would assume his replacement here should be ready to give it a run.

It will be more likely that the bigger programs or pier programs will be coming after our offensive coordinator due to Babers age.

Geez, the freaking mill town mentality - look for the cloud on a sunny day. He isn't going anywhere.
Don't worry, Crusty, when it's cold outside, I've got the month of May.

BTW, I work in Milltown (NJ, that is) and yeah, that is the mentality of some ;)

Unless he comes here and immediately we start winning 8-10 games in a year or two, I find it hard to believe one of the powerhouses would step up and go after a mid-50's HC. Even if we're winning, I don't think he'd be as hot a commodity as others. Those schools are looking for guys that will head the program and be mainstays for 10+ years.

I could see a school like South Carolina or K State or Iowa, that type, possibly going after a very successful SU HC. They are good programs, but not the upper echelon.

KState and Iowa would be just a slight step up. But your point is solid.

He didn't become a HC until he was 50/51 can't blame the guy for trying to move up the food chain quickly. If he has success here he might just stay.

There's also another way you can encourage coaches to stay -- $$$. Everyone talks about losing the guy, which isn't bad if he's successful enough, but money talks. If he's in his 50s, having success and getting paid big coin, you would htink you'd at least have a shot of holding onto him.

I'm just skeptical of how many Big Boys be coming after a guy in his late 50's.

he is 54. His last 2 coaching jobs have each been 2 years.

Mark Richt is 55 and had his pick of every opening.

Just food for thought. If we can keep Dino here for 4 years, we'll be in good shape for a 10-15 yr run.

By "pier programs" do you mean California or Florida programs?

Packed Dome. ACC Championships. Increased pay. Nice lifestyle in CNY. I could see him staying.

Saban was hired by Alabama when he was 56 and he is now 64.

Bill Stuart I think is around 1000 years old and he is still a HC.

Age is being way overthought...he seems like a pretty spry 54 if you ask me and he certainly does not look it or act it.
