MACtion

Darrell Hazell went 11-3 at Kent State in 2012 and then crashed and burned at Purdue.

Well come on!!!! You are ruining the narrative. Sean Lewis sharts thunder, pisses gold and is a cross between Belichick and Andy Reid. Dino owes his entire career to Sean Lewis, in fact so does Art Briles. Lewis invented the offense!!!

People just going on fishing exhibitions, looking for answers anywhere. Like I said, Lewis could be anything at this point, he won't be the first HC who flames out or does well when he moves on. But I think he needs to make a MAC championship game before we crown his arse. I mean he's 11-16,

Sean would not recruit any better than Dino here, his contacts were mostly mid west as well

That was their only great season in history. Since then to SL, nada. Lewis is the man, he has built a machine. The UB/Kent game is going to be must watch college football.

He fired Macky after least season. I'm surprised you don't hold that against him.

It's very impressive that Lewis has managed to get results at Kent. And they looked awesome the little I watched the game last night. But it's still the MAC.

Your last statement is awfully definitive. He turned a perennial dumpster fire, save one season, into a well prepared, hard playing, confident team.

Lots of Lewis love - which is fine - but I saw a quarterback that was really good, really smart and really efficient. Dustin Crum. (fwiw, he’s a holdover, not a Lewis recruit)

He does what he has to do. Not sure what the situation with Macky was or is.

I saw a QB that doesn't have half the skill TD has, being put in a positions to succeed with the right play calls.

Nonsense, it's the MAC. They weren't over matched on a weekly basis. You think play calling is the biggest issue here? PLEASE

he did a million things better than TD. When you say skill, you mean what exactly? He made good throws and great rpo decisions.

they said the kid grades out over 94%. You think that’s just because the position they put him in?

DOESN'T COUNT LEWIS IS WINNING WITH OTHERS RECRUITS!!! HE CAN'T DEVELOP HIS OWN GUYS!!!!
:) :)

NEEDS JUCOS!!! NEEDS TO WORK HARDER!!
You can say that all you want. We have 1 winning season in 5 under DB. That's a .200 hitter, not a hall of Famer.

DB is a great guy, and he may end up being the answer, only time will tell, but his time here has not lived up to my expectations.

people saying “it’s just the MAC” when Kent State has been the cellar dwellers of the MAC before Lewis. Idk if the MAC will still have bowls with only 6 games played but they will be in another one if so

Also just looking at stars (which I hate) Lewis’s best player in this current class would be 3rd for us. That’s really good for somewhere like KSU

Or we just don't have a good QB or more of Dino's son in laws
That doesn't account for what I said before. A lot of people noticed the offense looked different, slower and more conservative, starting in 2018.

We only averaged 10 yards more per game in 2018 than 2017 and that was with a defense that got turnovers and gave the ball back to the offense more. The biggest difference was that we got in the endzone more. That was the improved oline and Dungey.

What does it say that the yardage was so close, given an inferior oline and running game in 2017 and the absence of Dungey for a good chunk of the season?

Wow, way to exaggerate what people are saying. Most are simply saying he was a superior OC to what we've had since and contributed something to the offense that's been missing since he left. Dino probably agrees, given that he demoted Lewis's successor. Those observations were being made throughout 2018 despite our improved team success. In 2016 and 2017 Millhouse pointed out repeatedly that our scoring production was lagging behind our yardage. In 2018 it finally caught up largely due to improved oline play and Dungey's health.

2018 was also unique because we made a LOT of field goals.

Very few empty possessions that season.

How will bowls work for the MAC this year? Top 6 teams by order of finish make a bowl?

It says that the 2017 was actually pretty good until Dungey and pretty much the whole defense all got hurt for the last few games, and only an absolutely brutal schedule kept it from a bowl game. That was a 7-5 type team.

That's one conclusion. Fwiw, 2016 ypg weren't too far behind either.

Yeah. 2016’s defense was just really, really bad though.
The point has been more about how the offenses compared between the years being discussed. The ypg were all comparable whereas there was a significant difference in ppg. In 2018 ypg and ppg seemed to match.
