Maliq Brown starting at Duke

The reality is that had Maliq stayed he’d be starting now, and would probably have gotten starter minutes since Thanksgiving.

That he wouldn’t have been starting from the jump might be a sign that this program is really messed up.

When we get good again, the hostility towards the top teams will return from all of you and you will act like it never left. Right now it is crazy dark times with all these fans having their tail between their legs. Even 4-5 years ago there would be nothing but hatred for Duke. I have to laugh that there’s all this discussion as well as the article itself about the reasons Maliq left and I have yet to see a comment (or missed it) that for a guy like Maliq who probably isn’t seeing the NBA, he’ll also be getting his college degree from an elite academic university.

This is still college basketball. A Duke degree and the network he’ll develop will come in handy down the road. I would hope that was a factor in his decision.

Just give him some crap for going to Duke! In conference rival or at least the closest thing to it. What other team draws crowds like the old days? We beat them at least 4 times off the top of my head. We played them close plenty of others. Coach K, all those POS players people love to hate, hating Duke is just a normal thing for being a non-Duke fan, even if you are not in their conference and have a history! I don’t think Maliq is a legit bad person or something, but if you have any love for cuse they should be off your list of teams to transfer to. I will be booing maliq tomorrow without question

Every person who has ever put on a duke jersey can suck it! And that includes Maliq!!

I don't have any ill will towards Brown. He left. Wish he hadn't, but he did. That said, it was his choice to put on another team's jersey. It's mine to now root against him. I hope he has an awful game tomorrow night.

I spent the entire summer arguing with people who thought Lampkin would be an upgrade just cause he was big. Fun times.

Bottom line is we need to keep players like Maliq if we ever plan on being good again.

Red would have been way better off starting Donnie/Maliq at the 4/5 and having a traditional big defensive center off the bench, and then dump the 800k into a PG. Different team. Oh well.

I feel like multiple things can be right. Maliq leaving for Duke is unquestionably a better decision for him if we wanted to win. Way better roster, gets to play with NBA draft picks, be part of a championship run etc.. It also really sucks for any Syracuse fan confronting the reality that 1. going to Duke is night and day different and better than staying at Syracuse (who we all want to be a blue blood program) when it comes to winning and 2. that we don't have to be thrilled that he did that. I think questioning his character because of this is way too far. We are fans and they are players. Asking them to have the same loyalty as us is a faulty premise.

maliq and JG3 both made a calculated move whereby a deep NCAA tourney run was likely.
that wasn't ever gonna happen here. neither are going to the NBA. this was their chance.
that said i hope maliq gets some dome minutes tonite in a blowout loss .it'll be interesting to see how he plays and how he's greeted.

Pretty much everyone is in agreement that Kadary was/is an elite player and Boeheim not doing everything he could to retain him was a horrible mistake. Very different from the Brown situation since he left entirely on his own, not with the head coach essentially showing him the door.

It took a few months but we finally got people to say that Leffew got $200K more to go to UGA. What'd Brown get?

I'm not saying he didn't get more money. I want to know how much. Let's be transparent, it's the only way to have a real conversation about this stuff.

My favorite Kadary SU moment was that NCAA 2nd round win over WVU when he had to come in the last 2:00 to bring the ball up the court since nobody else on the roster could handle the couch burners pressure.

We all do want Syracuse to be a blue blood and upper echelon basketball power, but that ship sailed many years ago. Can't really blame Brown for wanting to be a part of a team that at least has the hope for making the tourney and winning a title. That sure is not us and has not been for a while.
