Unfortunately, he is jumping from Syracuse in the ACC to Texas which is in the P2. Big difference in economics. Remember, Tier 1 is the P2, Tier 2 is the ACC and Big 12, and Tier 3 is the G5. Kind of the worst place to be is in the middle. You have money but not enough to compete against the P2, but you can lose to a G5 school in a given year even though they won't pay as much money.

i don’t think paying him more would have mattered . He’s not going there to sit the bench. The kid was one of the best freshman DT in the country. Not giving him enough credit.

And last year the schedule Was weak!
 
I feel he is the only portal loss that really impacts the team but it is what it is. He left and the coaches will have to adjust. The older Thomas brother will help the loss. It would be good to add another DT. However we are bringing in a lot of freshman and just like Watson one or two might surprise and be ready to contribute.

Absolutely. Some of the questioning if he’s going to sit the bench because he came from Syracuse is just weird. We should want our best players to be able to go and start at places like that. Sounds like he got paid too from Fran’s comments on the Jim Rome show.
 
Even Fran told him to leave when he heard the number from what I just watched. Good for MW. These kids grow up with nothing in a lot of cases. And everyone here saying they wouldn’t leave their current job for 2-4x money is flat out lying. Stinks to lose him but happy for the kid

Exactly. It’s not like SU has had its teeth kicked in. Three guys have left for more money in two years. Everyone else is playing time, culture fit, getting the talk.

Fran is clear with coaches in our radius. You protect your home schools and we help you in return. When you cross us (aka helping an SEC school poach a local kid), you’re dead to us. Sounds like Irvington kids won’t be getting any favors from us so long as that coach is there.

Fran told him to leave but it wasnt so much "go get the money" It was "Go get the money, but did you talk to the D-Line coach?" To which Watson responded "No, I just talked to this guy."

Which was a warning that...well...they are going to pay you but it might not be all sunshine and roses there if you have not even talked to the position coach.

MW bought into this when he agreed to get poached from a culture of trust and commitment and thrown into a vipers nest. Is the bag real? Or is it a bunch of conditions, false promises and illusory playing time? BOL.

Look, if SU has to be the cool place to go, get on the field and then you leave to get paid in the SEC and BIG for the last two years, I'm ok with that. We can also be the place where 4 and 5 stars go to play after sitting the bench for two years in the SEC and BIG. You can win with that formula.

Are you referring to Coach Smoke or whoever replaced him? I know he's not the Irvington HC anymore.

That’s absolutely as it should be. Have to have consequences.

Although, i first assumed he was referring to Sark but makes sense if he didn’t talk to the position coach and just talking to some guy sounds sketch. Wonder if there is a cut being thrown in since it doesn’t sound like he has an agent?

Should be able to present them now.

3 year deal… 20% distributed during the first season, 30% distributed during the 2nd season, 50% distributed during the 3rd season.

A portion of each season’s $ doesn’t get paid until the end of the season. Hit the portal (again) before the end of the season and you lose that last chunk along with the following seasons’ funds.
