Maraad Watson transferring to Texas

He wasn't going to start! They brought in Chris Thomas who is pretty good and they really Like Dion Wilson... Thomas and Wilson were probably going to be the two starters with Maraad and Jobity rotating in!
How can you be so vehement with an absolute statement and an exclamation point then use the word probably on who the starters would be?

We just lost arguably our best offense and defensive player in the span of a couple days. It doesn’t matter if we have a couple names behind them to be inserted. You can never expect to be consistently successful if we get our best players picked off each year. Unfortunately, this madness is just beginning.
Yup absolutely right. It’s going to very hard to follow college sports if it continues on this path. I love, absolutely love college football but with this landscape I will be out very quick. It’s absolute joke.

He's going to think it'll go different for him because he's different, and that's going to matter.
He might be different, and the results might different… He might be one of the greatest coaches of all time.

Or he might have had Tom Brady carrying him for all those years.

He’s definitely a good or maybe even great NFL guy. But college football is completely different, even before nil and the transfer portal made building a roster into an exercise in insecure outcomes and frustration.

I agree, why would Belichek sign up for college football nuttiness at 75? He must think he’s going to be the boss squirrel, not the little squirrel.

Add in the fact that he is having a ton of responsibility handed over to his 24 year old girlfriend

He made a pretty good decision to decommit from Kent State and sign with Fran. A whole lotta recruits are going to see what Fran did and want to follow this path. We won't keep every kid that shines but we'll hit plenty of doubles and home runs. Fran seems to have doubled down on HS recruiting while the factory schools are focusing more on the portal and alienating their own recruits.

Eh, not highest rated incoming on Watson
What’s more important is after playing a year and being evaluated off that he got re-graded as what would be a high 4star with a 92 grade and #57 overall in this years portal class.

imo these portal grades represent their true grade since now there is actual tape to evaluate from playing on this level. He’s easily the highest graded and apparently most coveted guy we lost throughout this portal madness these last few years.

Personally, he was the 1 guy i didn’t want to lose. We’ve struggled mightily pretty this century to recruit college ready DT’s who can do more than clog the middle. I’m obviously not saying anything people already don’t know but winning up front on the lines is what wins you ball games. Just a devastating loss.

He is a big loss, but we have dudes all over the DL.

Oh I fully agree.

There is some irony that by coming to Syracuse, he had an opportunity to play right away that he may not have gotten other places, and that makes him more desirable on the transfer market now.

Every team is losing kids. It's going to be a Sh show until the settlement is in place along with some other changes. I'll say this. Without a leader like Fran, we are screwed. I don't see anyone else doing what he is doing. He is a God send for us.

perhaps the only way to limit of the chaos is to bring back the sit 1 yr rule.

Players have control even more than coaches do since there is no penalty at all for leaving
That's due to court rulings, so other cases would have to come forward to set new precedent.

Pandora's out of the box y'all

Not going to happen at this point. The whole point of that ruling is you can’t treat college athletes differently than non-athletes. A non-athlete can leave for a different college anytime he wants as long as he’s accepted. You can’t kidnap a kid, in a way, to not be allowed to participate “in college” by saying they have to sit out a year of athletics just because they switched schools.

I’m not saying I agree or disagree. Even taking away their ability to get NIL for a year would make a huge impact on the amount of portal entrees. But NIL aspect is definitely not changing and I don’t think making athletes sit a year would hold up in court.

Tank played last year and was barely noticeable. As a true freshman Watson was clearly the best of the bunch. That was only a sneak peek of what he is capable of. Just because you have some guys that you can plug in doesn’t mean it makes up for it. It’s the equivalent of just putting the next name on the depth chart. There’s no way to sugar coat this one. These are the losses that can affect the entire defense. Big, athletic DT’s don’t grow on trees.

when this continues down this road they will unionize and then some control will be in place. maybe

Tank only played in 5 games and with it being a new defense for him he might have just started to "get it". I would expect this year with a full offseason of learning and practicing he should have a much bigger impact. Losing Watson still stings no matter how you slice it.

Crazy times and constantly changing. At some point you’d think govt would try to get involved but maybe not. As long as B10/SEC dominate the landscape they can prob help to prevent any significant govt intrusion. The idea of unionizing though would significantly alter things.

He wasn’t at SU for free either. He left because he didn’t get a guarantee at starting.
What happened to the daysof ear ning your sh--. I loved this kid but if he left cause he needed to start then we dont need em cause at some point important he will give up and it will hurt us. These kids are so short sidded.
