Marek's biggest play

An underrated aspect of Marek's role is that he serves as the pressure release for the guards in our offense. Since neither Joe or Buddy "blow past," Marek steps out a lot to get the ball once the guards have picked up their dribble. Either Boeheim is going to have to get more comfortable with Kadary playing and handling 80% of the game, or we are going to get bogged down on offense a lot more next year, because none of our younger bigs have Marek's skill set.

Just because they are not Marek it doesn’t mean they can’t help. It’s not like anyone guarded Marek coming down. They just need to catch the ball and dribble over half court.

Im not talking about a press release. I agree, that's pretty straightforward, and probably any of our "4s" can do it.

I'm talking about the offense. Watch how many times he has to come to the ball, or step out to become available, while in half court. This is different than the other 5s we've had who would just set ball screens 25' out.

This didn't really come to me until yesterday and candidly. I had been a little down on Marek due to what I perceived to be offensive regression.

I agree that Marek helped out there a lot but I don't think next year will be an issue without him. I saw Braswell do it yesterday and I think Edwards can be effective there.

He is one of the smartest offensive players I’ve seen in a long time. He’s always ready to come to help and he has great vision. The slip screen and then the dunk to Quincy was a beautiful play. That’s going to be there for anyone screening for Buddy.

That plus, if he would take that 15’ like he did yesterday, he would be so much more effective on offense.

Getting his foot down when he and Kadary nearly botched that inbounds.
I go further and say if he doesn’t get that foot down the momentum reverses and we probably lose. It had Moten timeout and scoop back court violation written all over it. I felt like things were aligning when that didn’t bite us

Yes, that was huge. It was nearly disastrous. That said, I think his biggest play was playing with 4 fouls and not picking up a fifth. That was REALLY good and a difference maker.

Agreed.

That said - he was forced to concede several layups late during the ‘eers comeback, since he couldn’t contest them and risk drawing his fifth.
