Doug Marrone is the college version of Herm Edwards. He can look the part, act the part, talk the part, but when the ball is finally kicked off he just doesn't have "it". Doug is a terrible gameday coach. Tonight was just another example.

He has clearly lost the team this year. This team was uninspired from the get go tonight and really mailed this one in. Doug is a good man, seems like an honest man who runs a clean program and is doing things the "right way" but he doesn't have what it takes to be a winning football coach on this level. He is a career assistant who is in over his head. And like Herm Edwards his actions and words will fool ya into thinking he knows what he is doing but the results speak for themselves.

Im typing this having left early due to exactly what you've stated. Anyone who still has a positive outlook on the future of marrone and this program is wearing double thick orange glasses. He seems like an admirable guy but the same was said about Grob. My whole section tonight was referring to DM as Doug Robinson... That speaks for itself.

You are far too premature with this negative banter...

Come back in 2 years if the team has shown no significant improvement.

If this team doesn't show better improvement in 2 years then we should think about accepting an invite to the MAC conference because thats about the level of football were currently competing at.

Those of you that think DM doesn't have it are clueless ! This Team and the Players are so much better than what we've had for the past several years and it's getting better all the time.

Marrone has to be on the hot seat if we don't get to a bowl this year. You can't start out 5-2 and lose 5 straight games where at least 2 of them could be perceived as probable wins.

I definitely agree with this. TGD wants to win, and win now. If Marrone loses out this season, then he'll be on the hot seat next year in Gross's eye's.

so the bar is set that low in your eyes? Since we were downright terrible for 4 or 5 years the fact we are mediocre to below average means everything is good? Give me a break.

We play an easy schedule and in a bad conference and we are fighting to get to 6 wins.

Doug Marrone's young son had major surgery yesterday. I suspect the football game may not have been the most important thing on his mind tonight. What is the old adage about trying to walk a mile in another man's shoes?

What was the excuse for the Toledo, Tulane, Rutgers, L'ville, and UCONN games? Where he also did a terrible job. He was lucky to win a couple of those only because the level of competition was bad.

Save the excuses. Save the excuses. It's not just a "tonight" thing or a "1 game" thing. He has been bad all year and it is getting worse each passing week. I know you are an SU apologist and worked for them and all and god bless ya. But I don't want to hear an excuse about his sick kid as to why the entire team mailed it in. That BS ain't gonna fly. Plus the assistant coaches he has hired have been bad too this year. That's on Doug, he brought these guys in. Did they have sick kids too in surgery? What's the excuse for them? Our special teams is a joke on every level and has been since Day 1 he got here. How many more times are we gonna kick the ball out of bounds on a kickoff?

marrone hasn't lost this team, the team is lost from within their ranks.

doug is going to have to throw any disruptive team member off the team next that has time left on the schoolies.this will be the only way he will get the respect back from the troubles that are coming from within.

Hey we got people on this board who think its a good idea to bring back that great kid and great teammate Marcus Sales! Talk about disruptive. He screwed his entire team over this year with his selfish actions but people are begging for him to come back.

What a joke!

Amen!!!! I dont care about excuses. I wish his son a speedy recovery. What if Penn State beats Nebraska this weekend? LOL! Do we want to play happy football or do we want to play kick-a$$ football?

I agree. And I hope his son is fine. But if it was that "major" of a surgery, take a leave of absence for a week and let someone else coach the team. Everyone would understand. I mean its his kid for christ sakes. But don't come using his sick kid as an excuse for his poor job. That's total BS!

Wow. I am glad there are so many caring human beings here. Football is a game. A child with a serious medical condition is a profound human event. I hope it never happens to any of you.

If it was that serious what kind of father is he to be coaching the game to begin with? I don't know the details, but if its as serious as you are making it out to be he shouldn't have coached tonight then. It can't be used as an excuse. I'm sorry. It's just can't. I'm not trying to come off as cold, but that excuse after the fact is total BS!

He could have taken a week off or 2 or 3...nobody would have blamed him. It's his son and if its as "serious" or "major" as you are hinting at, then everyone would understand!!! But if you are going to walk on the sideline and coach, i don't want to hear the excuse of the sick kid after we lose and he does a poor job. You can't have it both ways.

I doubt Nick Saban or Les Miles and co. could do better with what we have. I just don't believe it.

It's easy to be a great coach when you have talent across the board. Maybe that should be the issue with this staff - recruiting. I've seen other staffs come right in and make an instant impact pulling blue chippers right out of the gate. The downfall of this staff will be recruiting.

Yes it is,but it cant be used as an excuse for tonight when we've seen this stuff for all but 1 game this year.

I read this post and immediately thought of Brett Favre for some reason...when he had half his intestines removed in college and beat Bama. Alabama coach Gene Stallings said, "You can call it a miracle or a legend or whatever you want to. I just know that on that day, Brett Favre was larger than life."[10] Is Marrone larger than life? No...no, he is not. Is he "larger than average?" Maybe...maybe not.

We may lack talent, but so do the teams we are losing to. We play better against to better teams. USC, WF, WVU and Toledo are the 4 best teams we have played and we are 3-1. Then 2-4 vs the craptastic teams.

I don't 'know Bees. Uconn was a bad loss - a What loss if you will but Rutgers, offer for offers their kids have more. they are not a better team obviously but they have talent. I don't follow USF but if you look at their committment list over the last several years and look at the offers those kids have it's astonishing. They haven't built their team on 'under the radar' kids and frankly it showed when we matched up tonight. Geez, both of their safeties are as big as DyShawn Davies who, as you know, is our starting outside linebacker.

Teams like LVille and USF are bad matchups because they're just as fast but they're bigger. We can play with light finesse teams or poorly coached teams but otherwise we have to scrap. Unfortunately this year we've also played down to our competition; Tulane/RI, but I could care less about style points.

WVU - we played a perfect game. A rare feat.

Lville lost to FIU and Marshall and started 7 frosh against us. UConn is horrible and shows it every game and has no QB at all. A frosh and a walk-on and lost their 2 best LB's just like us. Rutgers has the worst offense in the BE and has gotten every break every game to be lucky enough to win. If USF had talent, they wouldn't have been 0-4 with loses to 2 of the scrubs I just mentioned. None of these tams have a lot of talent regardless of what the stars say. Keep a copy of tonight's rosters. I bet SU will have as many players make the NFL as USF.

I don't look at stars I look at offers. USF is stacked and they no doubt as of today have more players who will get to the league.

Agreed Rutgers and Uconn are terrible and I agree they were both What losses. LVill though is playing well. A lot like us last year, winning with defense and enough on O to get it done. They've recruited well to as they put out on the field as many frosh and sophs as we do. They've lost their 4 games by 7, 4, 7 and 9 points.

you guys can sit here and debate talent level all you want. But this isn't the NFL where a coach can blame the GM for talent level. In college the talent level falls at the feet of the head coach as well. I'm sick of the excuses. Marrone is in over his head and each week he proves it.

I don't want to hear how USF is loaded with talent and SU isn't. USF hadn't won a conference game till last night. In the Big East!! I mean seriously, how much talent do they have when it takes till mid November to win your first conference game in a crappy Big East. Check that a downright right awful Big East Football conference.

Exactly, it isn't like we are playing an SEC schedule here. It's the Big East in a down year. The teams we are playing aren't any good. UCONN can hardly throw a forward pass this year. USF didn't win a conference game till last night. Rutgers has been awful most weeks. These teams stink. There is no positive way to spin it, they stink! And SU is having trouble with all of them and losing to them.

The only point I disagree with you bees is that SU played well vs WF. SU was god awful vs WF for 50 min and if the WF QB doesn't go down that is a loss. But the jist of your point is correct.
