Marrone with another p---- punt

if drafting someone better next year gets misconstrued as panic, so be it.

his qb rating is 66 the last 4 games, i think lebeau isn't the only one who's figured out he can't throw and only looks at one receiver
It would be a great idea to draft a QB in the first round every year until the rookie QB meets Bills fans' unrealistic expectations after his first five games. It may take 20 years, but oh well! 13 years, no playoffs...we have no patience and development is not allowed. The QB better be a star immediately - we've suffered long enough, dammit!

he's not up to it. you can't waste time on a guy that inaccurate, especially when there are a hundred good qbs coming out. they reached on him which was fine because they need a qb so bad. i wanted them to draft him.

but he's sub 60% passing even though he never throws the ball downfield and takes off if his one read isn't there.

if buffalo fans have such unrealistic expectations of QBs who are actually good, how come every ex bill qb continues to suck? the bills problem is not that they don't give their crappy qbs enough time. losman edwards fitz. if anyone has the ability to recognize bad qbs, it's bills fans.

there's not that much downside to picking another QB. they're ok at most other positions.

Manuel's downfield passing attempts his first five games were comparable to Luck last season, so your "he never throws the ball downfield" exaggeration is false.

I never said the Bills fans were impatient with Losman, Edwards, and Fitz. But I do know that you guys are being extremely impatient with Manuel. It's ridiculous. Let the kid develop. Can we at least see how his first season turns out before we talk about how "he's not up to it?"

they stopped throwing the ball downfield because they saw he can't do it

Let's be honest with ourselves: no NFL team has ever chosen a QB in the first round in consecutive years. The Bills won't be the first. The only chance it could remotely happen is if Marrone and staff are fired after the season. And unless they lose out and finish 3-13 that won't happen (and even if they lose out it's still very unlikely).

What is it with Marrones penchant for QB's that can't throw downfield?

The new CBA might open up that door though. Back in the days when you had to sink $50mill in to Sam Bradford you weren't going to take two of those guys back to back. Now though, those first contracts are a lot more reasonable, and if you get a few years of good quarterbacking on the cheap out of them you can really build a good team around them.

I sometimes wonder if they should just hold a separate QB draft and require each team pick up a minimum of two new ones every year.

Hackett is the issue in that department. A lot people defend him but he is in over his head.

It's not about money (feels weird saying that). You're opening yourself up to a split locker room with two young first-round QB's. One is not going to be overwhelmingly better than the other, despite what the EJ haters yap about.

I don't know about that NovaOrange - florida state fans warned everyone before the draft.

mike glennon has a better qb rating than Manuel. MIKE GLENNON what has the world come to? he looks like the guy from super troopers for christ's sake I'm actually sitting here wondering if they'd be better off with nassib. NASSIB! LOUD NOISES

When was the last time the bills drafted a quarterback that was halfway decent in the NFL out of the gate? Kelly BZZT wrong USFL. I don't know the answer this question. No one does because anyone who actually saw it is either dead or can't remember

you could put college qbs faces on the board at the zoo and pick the first guy that gets pelted with gibbon feces and you would have a better draft record than the bills. And I wanted them to draft Manuel. actually you'd probably be better off just drafting the gibbon than edwards, losman, manuel, collins,

EJ looked awful BUT..

-It was his first game back after a month being injured.
-No Robert Woods, his favorite target.
-Running game was non-existant.

Now this should give the doom and gloomers a little pause..

-Dick LaBeau is 17-2 vs rookie qbs.
-As bad as EJ was against the Steelers, Geno Smith was worse.

the bills have other receivers, manuel just doesn't know how to look at any of them.

If you expected Manuel to come in and dominate from the start then it's no wonder you're so miserable.

And who cares what FSU fans think. There are Syracuse bball fans who thought Michael Carter-Williams sucked. Doesn't mean anything.

People keep bailing the OC out. It's not hard to figure out he doesn't use the screen game to off set the blitz. He has terrible designed depth on passing patterns on 3rd downs. All I hear is he has to use a bad QB. BS that is a cop out he has horrible run designs, bad passing designs, and a terrible feel for the flow of the game. He is a college level OC not a NFL OC. He will get Doug fired if he stays on. Also to top it all off he refuses to use a backside boot leg, but hey you right Millhouse EJ should be the one to blame SMH

I think that's one possible scenario. Another is that one of the QBs is overwhelmingly better than the other.

The Steelers didn't blitz on Sunday. I don't think the screen would have worked based on what Lebau was doing.

I think everyone has a share of the blame for the offensive woes, but it can't be easy designing an offense with the QB injuries and issues he's had to deal with. When you consider that, is he really doing a terrible job? How many OC's out there have had to deal with that?

This is an impressive display of terrible reading comprehension.

You went through the trouble of bolding "When was the last time the bills drafted a quarterback that was halfway decent in the NFL out of the gate?" and followed it with, "If you expected Manuel to come in and dominate from the start then it's no wonder you're so miserable."

Your post would've made sense had I said, "when was the last time the bills drafted a quarterback that dominated from the start." too bad i didn't.

Terrible post. Did you read the sentence you bolded or did you get confused in the 4 seconds between hitting Ctrl-b and typing your strawman response?

It's funny because it hurts me -

"Game plan, and how we're putting those guys in there," was Marrone's response when asked why Spiller touched the ball only 11 times. Marrone was evasive on Spiller's role going forward. "Could increase, could decrease. We'll see week to week." In short, we've been had again by one of the least truthful coaches in the NFL, who said last week he was "excited" to start getting Spiller the ball more.

I totally disagree with this entire post he is the glaring issue to me. I hated the hire day 1 and still due. I love Mike and Doug but Hackett has to go.

I've been impressed with Hackett when we have any QB other than EJ. For some reason when EJ is in there, the playcalling is vanilla, boring and predictable.

It seems we run and throw well out of the i formation yet 85% of our plays are run out of the shotgun.

spiller doesn't want to get hit, he bounces outside every run even when there are holes. this guy can't get to the sideline fast enough on his own, marrone is doing the right thing by helping him stay on the sideline

lots of screengrabs from a buffalo radio guy

Sidenote: How bad is the AFC 6th WC when Buffalo still has a chance if they beat the Jets this weekend?

I used "dominate" because it seems that is what your expectations were considering your reaction to his play to this point.

So what is "halfway decent" to you? Because a rational person would consider what Manuel had done before injuring his knee vs. the Browns was "halfway decent." He became the first rookie quarterback to post a passer rating of at least 89.0 in his first two games. He led a last minute game-winning touchdown against one of the best defenses in the league in his second career game. He was Top 20 in passer rating at the time he was injured (Luck was 26th as a rookie).

I'm not saying Manuel wasn't horrific on Sunday. He was. But to write him off based on that game and already lump him in with Losman and Edwards is just stupid.
