Maryland Gameday...

Gait will get there with the timeout and clock management. Desko was pretty good in close games but had more experience. I always thought he and Donahue had good set plays off timeouts and called them at the right moments.

Gait does need to be better in game. Waited way to long to take that TO in OT and riding there with this team after the review made no sense

You watched that and think we aren’t good?
We are good enough to be in these games yes, but the execution late the last couple years has been hard to watch. Except for the UNC game winner last year.

Truth is we HAVE to beat Utah and Army if we want a real shot at the tourney. Can't rely on the ACC games to get there.

Hit a post, double clutched a game winner, and the Leo play. Maryland smoked us last year. This is a way different team

As someone pointed out above English needed to bury his look for the winner. Thats a shot the Denver transfer last year buries. SU has to get him and Thomson on track or bump Birtwistle.

He hit the goalmouth, the call was correct under the rules

100%.

The rule sucks IMO, but the rule is the rule. It really sucks too because it appeared that Leo sliding into that particular crease area had no bearing whatsoever on the play, since the ball was passed the end line well before his momentum/sliding to his final resting spot.

Yup that's exactly what Gait said to. It's easy to say in hindsight but Leo has to either work farther up field or position his body so he's falling away. The rule sucks but it's still a rule and SUs lost a goal on it 3 times this year. As you noted the frustrating part is it really had no bearing on the shot itself. Frustrating because it didn't even need to come to that if English buries his look

I just want us to be good again... But anytime we taste a glimpse... We choke...
Our best two defenders are sophomores. Our best two midfielders are sophomores. Our best attack is a Freshman. Goalie, wings, fogo, all transfers. Picking up on the pattern? I think talent wise we can compete now, but we’ll still have some challenges.

get 2/3 vs Army Cornell and Jhu. Beat Delaware and Utah. Win the gameswe’re supposed to and try to get two ACC wins. That’s a very strong resume.

The review should have served as the TO as they used their one OT TO to set up the Leo dive.
I just went back & looked at the end. You are correct, we had used our TO already. But as Carc said we didn't have all our right people out there. We weren't ready. Rice was coming in trailing the play and acting like Md was going to throw the ball around. Did Gary do any coaching/preparing while the officials were reviewing the play or only lobbying them? Does Gary do any in game coaching? Does Gary coach? It seemed the Syracuse coaching staff was outcoached by the Md staff most of the game.

Mark got better as game continued
he did make some big saves as game went on but was under 50%. He has to be least 50% every game. Some of their goals he had no shot as was door step pass goal. But the koras bounce was weak n slow he didn’t step to it. The spanos goal at end he dove from back of net n beat him far lost which can’t happen. Also on the one think erska goal where he dove mark was low to ground n got beat high if just stood tall not dropping prob makes that save. He seems to be guessing at times not reacting. He had 9 saves which is really what’s he’s been avg so far this season think only hit double digit saves once.

Too busy complaining about the call, being incredulous, etc. Definitely were outcoached in that particular moment. Hopefully a lesson learned.

Honestly, it's on the DC to own this failure. After being so brilliant w the zone D on the series before, it's quite the breakdown.

Nothing to feel good about this weekend.

No disagreement there. It’s as if we were surprised they restarted the game. It was far too easy.
