Sorry to be negative after such a great win yesterday, but I was in the car through the first half yesterday and was forced to listen to the radio broadcast.

Just wanted to say that Syracuse University should have the best play-by-play person in the country working for them in all sports. Yet for some unbeknownst reason, it doesn't

I am sure Park is a nice enough guy and I'm sure he bleeds Orange (just like all of us), but he fumbles his words way too much and it is often times unclear what is going on a lot of times during the game.

There were numerous times during the car ride where I had no clue if our player had caught the ball or if it was incomplete, not to mention that the pairing of him and Gedney lacks a lot of excitement.

Again, it's nothing personal at all and I'm sure he's a nice enough guy but it's mindboggling that SU can't find someone that is a better technical play-by-play guy with the laundry list of guys it produces to big-time levels.

What, you don't think "3rd and reasonable" adequately describes the situation? (What is 3rd and unreasonable?)

I think you're right. Park has good excitement and a good radio voice but he is horrible at describing the action on the field.

Park is fantastic. And no. You can't do a better job. No matter what you tell yourself

I have to admit I don't listen to many games on the radio, but from what I have heard Of Park. I think hes pretty good.

Fair point - but I am still not impressed.
Park is fine enough, I guess. But I understand where you're coming from.

The problem with play-by-play in college is all the extra stuff you have to do. Park has to teach (not sure if contractual, wouldn't surprise me), do all kinds of packages to preview, so PR type things, and announce. A talent like Pasch isn't going to stick around when he makes more just to announce.

Besides, radio's more of a service than a line of profit. They're not going to sink all that much money into it.

I think a good analogy might be John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. Not too many Yankee fans are going to say that they are the best in the business, but it's more comforting listening to them, then say a neutral or opposing teams announcers. They know the players and what is going on with them and after a while of listening to them, you get used to them and it makes it easy to follow along.

I think Park and Gedney are the same way. Are they the best announcers out there. Absolutely not. But for people who listen to the game on the radio, most find they are more than adequate in presenting the games and do a good job representing the school.

I like Matt. Hard worker who bleeds orange. Same with Gedney, who I've had the pleasure of meeting, you'd all like him.

To me, the hardest part about listening to Matt on the radio is when the opponent does something good. All home radio guys have less excitement in their voice when the opponent does something good (obviously), but Matt goes a level below that, to the point where I don't know what happened. There was a pick that Dungey threw in the USF game where it was returned about 15 yards, and all I could tell was something bad happened, had no clue what it was.

I could never do radio of SU games. Other than lacking the talent for the job. I'd be pissed, swearing, yelling w, t, are you doing.

Matt Park is the worst play by play guy I have ever listened to. Chris Gedney is equally awful. He grunts and makes all kind of sounds during the broadcast that are very unprofessional. Matt is constantly confused and mistaken about what is happening during the game. I'm surprised that he is still employed by SU. He is so bad it's embarrassing

I agree with this 100%.
He needs to just make the bad calls when they occur. He just goes quiet when something bad happens to SU that is so annoying.
John Sterling may be a homer but when something bad happens to the Yankees he has that professional call.
I bet Park is a good man but i wouldn't mind a better PBP guy. Gedney is fine. I miss Coach Mac but Gedney is fine.

If I was the Su play by play guy I would probably get fired by the 2nd qtr of my first game.

There's nobody that comes close for me in terms of SU play-by-play greatness than Doug Logan. Absolutely love the guy.

I think Mark Johnson is probably more technically skilled than Matt Park, but I would gladly take Park over him because you can tell he's genuinely emotionally invested in SU sports whereas I think Johnson couldn't have cared less.

Coach Mac's use of "we" was unmatched in radio history.

Gawd love him.

Favorite ever Coach Mac comment, after a Jeff Danish tackle circa, 1995 or 1996. "Danish, that's Danish's kid right?" "Sure Coach". "Well, I think I'll have a danish!"

I think Ray Lucas and Chris Carlin would give him a run for his money.

I would keep Park if they would get rid of Veley. That dude ruins basketball games with his calls and isn't much better at football.
Park is Bob Costas at his job compared to. Mr.Excitement. Carl Eilenberg he not.
