I really think he isn't the same player because he doesn't have Hughes around.
I was thinking the same thing. I have no data but from what I have seen, if Buddy gets a good look where he is truly open and has a standstill jumper, he hits it somewhere in the ballpark of 67%.
If he is somewhat covered, has a hand in his face, has to shoot off the dribble, etc., his percentage drops significantly.
I think a significant number of the 3s Buddy made last season came from Elijah, when he sliced into the paint, drew defenders and kicked it out to a wide open Buddy.
We don't have anyone doing that on this team any longer. That is decidedly not JGIII's game. At this point, Alan can't drive or pass like Elijah. When Marek drives, if he passes, it is going to be to an inside player, typically Quincy.
The logical guy to do this is Kadary. He can drive well and he can pass it well but to date, when he drives, he shoots it a lot and when he passes, it is usually a situation like Marek, where he attracts a defender as he approaches the hoop and dishes to someone else inside, usually Q, for an easy basket.
The drive and kick out play has rarely happened for this team.
I do see some of that with Kadary and JGIII. Joe will move without the ball when Kadary has it on the perimeter and Kadary will hit him if he attracts Joe's guy starting to drive. They work together pretty well.
The chemistry between Kadary and Buddy is just not there. Not sure why.
This is one of the reasons why I would like JGIII at SG more when Kadary is playing point. But if I were the coach, I would be working with Kadary on driving and kicking out. Not just to Buddy, but to JGIII and Alan as well.
Kadary does a lot of things well. This is one area he needs to work on.
