I think that a solid color of any kind 1) pumps up the home folks 2) does nothing at all to hurt opposing shooters

I was never bothered shooting FT's with any backdrop. You concentrate on the rim and nothing else matters anyhow. The biggest issue was being in a gym with a higher ceiling, IMO, because that's more in your periphery than anything behind the hoop that you aren't concentrating on anyhow.
