Not sure its any worse than watching what we see in

OK
Iowa
Clemson
MSU
WISC
TAM
MICH
KSU

All teams people seem to think are top 25 worthy.

so go thru that list and look and decide which of them have a passing game either.

The list shows a dearth of high performance QBs at this time.

Or.possibly a lack of suffix gently trained Olines.

I’m confused why if other teams have terrible offenses that makes our offense better? It’s like saying; it’s okay if my business is about to go out of business because look how many big names are too. We will be out of business in two months but we’re actually doing pretty well.

Very weird logic.

That’s like saying if you get a D on a test and 7 of the other 25 people in the class get a D on a test (and they’re supposed to be smarter than you), then a D is fine? My kid would definitely use this logic.

I actually think our offense is coming together in certain ways. But Shrader’s improvement passing the ball is our biggest uphill battle right now. He stands in the pocket better, looks at multiple receivers better. But if he could just borrow Tommy’s arm.

QB is such an important position. If you don't have one, you don't have an offense. Dino has had trouble getting one here that can do what we need. It seems like the oline has improved and can continue to with our fresh coach and some young pieces that return after this year. We may have some young pieces at WR. We need to get that QB. We'll have to find a way to manufacture enough points and stay on the field long enough to allow the defense to stay fresh this year and hope we can find a QB next year. Maybe one of the young guys can develop or maybe we keep looking outside (which we need to do regardless). Lower level teams find these smart, crafty, mobile guys all the time. We don't need a guy with a cannon for an arm or 4.4 speed. A decent arm that can buy time while keeping his eyes down field and throw on the run would be fine.

The explosion of offense ala B12 (that spread everywhere) has been countered a bit. Defenses know how to slow them now. People are better at stopping RPO’s.

I think what’s coming next isn’t here yet

It's not that our offense is "fine". There is room for improvement, clearly. We aren't choosing between Peyton Manning and Lamar Jackson with our two QBs that have played.

However, the important part is that we are on the tracks with the right guy that has room for improvement, a clear set of skills we need and gives us the best chance to win over the course of the season.

Are we where we want to be? No. Are we tracked right? Yes, as much as we can be.

I think you'll see the offense open up a bit more and the coaches take more chances the more reps GS gets.

It has to open up or all of the advantages we gain from GS will evaporate alongside #44’s in the face of a 9 man front

Good "name" programs with bad offenses does not mean our bad offense is good.
it wasnt about being a good offense.. this is about being a bad offense on teams that are all in the top 25.. fine is the new formal

I took the OP to mean the design of the offense. Those other teams have a history of good offensive schemes. If they can struggle, it may not be our scheme but the players (one position specifically) in it.

Calling something "normal" just because some solid squads don't have excellent offenses does not mean it is GOOD, or even fine. If everyone behaves poorly, that does not mean it is "good" because everybody does it, for example. Some of those other squads also have systems that do not rely on the sort of high-octane offense and tempo that our squad was supposedly going to be built around with Dino.

I don't fault you for trying to be positive, but let's be honest: it's just more excuses from fans that are trying to cultivate whatever sliver of hope they can to justify the current situation. I don't care what Iowa is or isn't doing-- and I only care about Clemson when our Venn Diagrams overlap. I want the product advertised.

Dino has had trouble getting one here cuz he’s made it clear to all recruits that he had a favorite and through thick and thin was going to stick with said favorite until he finally realized he’s going to lose his job if he doesn’t cut the crap

I get what your saying but performance in sports is relative. If others teams are struggling on offense and that gives you a chance to win games, that matters. NC State probably doesn't care right now that their offense didn't set the world on fire.

We have stuff to fix on offense for sure. We need a QB. We don't have one.

I really doubt that was the case at all. He wasn't walking into anyone's home saying, "I'd like you to come sit on the bench because I have my guy." Maybe guys assumed that.

OL has been solid.
All we need is for the passing game to be complementary and keep a defense honest.
If we can average 200 yards a game passing our rushing game would be really good.

Just keep the defense honest.
Our QBs scare the bleep out of me if they aren’t throwing 4 verticals passing plays.
We need some underneath and slant passes.
Work on play action.
Have the QBs actually be able to play under center and run some bootlegs.
It’s not hard. It’s offensive coaching.
What the hell is practice for.
Teach these kids. We can’t outtalent P5 teams.
We need to actually coach them up.

Defense does that.

Obviously he didn’t say that duh but that’s how it’s exactly played out

My question is: Is our offense more complicated than most other teams? If so, why? Does it need to be? For the last two years, I have been confident the OL issues have been the primary problem. And I still believe that. No doubt, our deficiencies at QB are a contributing factor. Now I wonder if our WRs are just not getting the concepts. Is it a matter of not being able to understand how the routes are schemed?

If teams are just manning us up then its on the WRs to get open.. if they are zoning us then its concepts. About the only thing you can tell sometimes is that the passing blocking isnt a train wreck most of the time now and if teams dont attack us in the box we can run pretty well.

Liberty showed us about as an aggressive D as you can see against the run those last 15 Min.. now we see if the coaches have an answers.

That’s what a segment of posters here have convinced themselves of

Meanwhile Lamson was highly recruited and Shrader was a 4*
