Maybe our offense is fine

We’re not going to be able to get by without passing vs BC, Clemson, NCSU and Pitt.

devito will get back in

Schrader could improve but we need to win now. We go to Tallahassee, then come home for unbeaten Wake Forest and Clemson, then go to Blacksburg and come home to unbeaten BC. Then comes three team that love to pound us: Louisville, NC State and Pitt, two on the road. 3-1 could easily become 3-9. We can have a balanced offense now with DeVito.

i agree on the points made about our passing concept. Where is the play-action? And why do we need to go deep? When they fill the box and run blitz, we don't need to throw javelins. Darts will do.

Something, anything that will keep the defense honest instead of selling out to the run. This shouldn’t be rocket science

That’s like saying if you get a D on a test and 7 of the other 25 people in the class get a D on a test (and they’re supposed to be smarter than you), then a D is fine? My kid would definitely use this logic.
Then the teacher probably grades on a curve (especially if the other kids are known as being smart) your kid would get a C maybe even a B which the kid would probably know but not necessarily dad. j/k :p

I agree - and I think Shrader could do it (hear that haters!?) but needs to make teams pay before it pays dividends

Using the transitive approach, Michigan only managed 15 1st downs (and 275 yds of total offense) against the Rutgers defense, playing in A2. Our numbers were 7 and 258. (corrected)

Not sure why people think TD is the answer. He has not been the answer since he was the starter. You can blame the Oline, wr, play calling lack of te play but he has had the similar glaring problems since ND.
I’m not saying GS is going to be the answer. I just know after seeing TD since ND he is not.
I would like to see how GS does if he gets full runs with the 1st team and plays designed with his skill set. I do agree we will need to pass more but I do not think we need to throw deep to be successful. Short and intermediate routes and using the middle of the field more would be sufficient for an affective passing game.
TDmaybe a great teammate. We will see if he continues to support the team if he is replaced but again not the answer.

The Rutgers D is far better than I thought.

If Liberty had Rutgers D - they’d be a top 15 team IMO

I'm certain that's how it would be sold to me. And how I would have explained it to my parents.

Plant corn, get corn.

Thought Liberty did not have a bad defense. We run really well but they did make some good plays. Hoping that the improved running game speaks more to an improved line versus Liberty not having a good D.

The issue may well be practice reps. if you want to maximize one guy you may have to stop the 50/50 reps.

Agree with this. If Shrader is the guy this week, then he needs to get starters reps. He has a lot of work to do, and I don't think we can keep splitting reps to keep everyone happy.

How many snaps did Davis play. Nice to run a ton but but we could also have worn down a bit on the oline with 2-3 guys playing more snaps than usual at spots they didnt start the year in

I'll take the 2019 TD who had 19TDs and 5 int despite being sacked 50 times.

You mean the GS that was playing as a freshman in the SEC?

Well 8 of his TD passes came against WMU and Holy Cross. So he only threw 11 TD passes vs P5 teams. Of those 11 TD passes, 5 came in garbage time. Otherwise he only had 6 TD passes in 9 games played when it mattered.

Now breakdown Schrader.
For Tommy it should be 7 TDs (6 passing and 1 rushing) in 8 games, we shouldn't count Wake. Shrader at Miss State had 6 TDs (2 passing and 4 rushing) in 7 games when it counted. They both did not produce. I wouldn't take either's 2019.

Essentially, we need either TD or GS to improve on their weaknesses. TD has been abused due to line play the previous two seasons, I am not sure whether he will improve or not. GS has the capacity to improve but we do not know if he will or not.

Because the running game worked well in the first half, HCDB and Gilbert were reluctant to adjust much. We have observed HCDB as getting a lead and holding on to not lose.

I am O.K. with either playing QB as long as we win. I will accept platooning the two if we win. Let's see what happens this week before we destroy both of them.

My question is: Is our offense more complicated than most other teams? If so, why? Does it need to be? For the last two years, I have been confident the OL issues have been the primary problem. And I still believe that. No doubt, our deficiencies at QB are a contributing factor. Now I wonder if our WRs are just not getting the concepts. Is it a matter of not being able to understand how the routes are schemed?
i do believe that the O needs to be updated. Not having a playbook is odd at best. If one guy is off script it can mess up everything.

Is it harder to throw touchdown passes that count than it is touchdown passes that don't count?

I still think the Rich Rod system gives us the best chance of consistently being a Top 40 program. If Dino is still here next year he should make the change.

Yes, garbage time scores are easier. Shrader had plenty of them in garbage time.

Edit***

Even if you add back the garbage time TDs, they both have 12 total TDs vs P5 teams and Tommy had one more game.

That doesn’t scream elite 4 star quarterback to me lol
Lamson is a great fit for SUs O. I also Like Morgan we are set at QB for a minimum of 3 years
