McDonald demoted

The villagers with their pitchforks got their target. Who's next fellas? You ain't gonna have GMC to kick around anymore.

Be careful what you wish for as we aren't to many moves away from 2008. To easy to slide back there if decisions are made in panic mode.

I don't see the positives outweighing the negatives but that's just me.

I think you're right and I think mid season timing is poor. It's rare that there's a mid season demotion of coordinators in college and that includes the SEC. This could have come from the top though as in Gross who wants to get out in front of another Pariani and try to prevent 2008 from happening again.

The best scenario I can see by doing it now, is that Shafer can get way out in front of hiring the best OC possible and doing it early December.

There could be more to the story here as football people know the players are also to blame as well; ie penalties, dropped passes etc. And until we get a QB who can complete basic passes and make basic decisions any OC is in some trouble.

It is not too late for this offense. Last year, when we won games we dominated with the run and solid defense. There is no reason we can't do that this year too.

Lester needs to get back to pounding the rock and play action pass. The receivers are not overly athletic, so just expecting them to beat corners one on one like in a bubble screen is dumb. We can design our receivers open. That is what Hackett did in 2012. Lemon and Sales are not the most athletic but they were super effective.

Our offensive line is very good and our backs are good enough. We need to line up and smash it, it is the only way to win with this team against ACC talent. Think last year vs. Terps and NC St. The defense is good enough.

Agree that Lester probably wasn't getting more and more involved. I took this to mean the opposite -- that McDonald was unwilling to accept Lester's help and had to be demoted. If they were already working hand in hand there is no reason to make this sort of move.

The more and more I think about it, the more I think the "*** It" interview has played a large role in this happening midseason. Many of you are correct - midseason is weird timing, and generally does not happen if at all in college.

I could absolutely see the President of the University calling Daryl Gross and telling him in no uncertain terms that this guy needs to go. Or at the very least a strong punishment should be doled out.

should have been handled quietly, leave him as oc in name only and have lester "advise"him. after signing day announce that mcd has been re- assigned full time head of recruiting and player evaluation---unfortunately this will be a severe negative impact in the incoming class ---i await the defections

Likelihood is that they couldn't keep it quiet even if they wanted to. This isn't the first time this has happened. There's no walking this back a second time. It has to be a final decision. If I were a betting man, McD is the source. McD will probably take the biggest paycheck he can get because there's no career advancement to be had here.

Or Shafer saw the deep pitch in the end zone that resulted in a safety and that was the final straw.

I think this is reasonable (and I wonder how McDonald is going to work beneath his former subordinate). No need to publicly switch their titles in October.

That said, Lester's a good one. Glad Shafer was eager to act on the concerns that some here shared.
Pretty tough to keep anything like this on the downlow in today's world.

If you imply they are keeping facts from us you are implying conspiracy.

They didn't say why at all, so it could be for any number of reasons.

conspiracy involves plotting or some kind of agenda or plan. That's not what I'm getting at just keeping information from someone does not alone make it a conspiracy. Thanks for your help though

Why even start this? What's the point?

This was the one thing I was concerned about HCSS - not being able to make the tough decisions with friends. This action has restored my faith in HCSS to make tough decisions when necessary - that is the necessary leadership required from a HC.

However, timing of decision is suspect. You don't "officially" make these changes until the season is over. Sounds more like a falling out between friends or GM recognized he was not cut out to be an OC and decided to step aside now to "save" his friends. Maybe GM wanted to go back to what he does best - WR position coach & recruiting coordinator. Could turn into a win-win imo. Time will tell.

By the way - feel bad for THunt - whether or not he deserved to stay as starting QB prior to his injury - kid was a fighter. He got us to a bowl game and won it last year - I thank him for that.

Well, I can't say that I disagree with this decision, especially after the L'ville game, some of the plays called were really head scratchers. McD tried but his offenses were far too inconsistent and I still believe we had a lot of square peg, round whole stuff with the personnel he has vs the offense he wants to run.

Hopefully he sticks around and does the WR/Recruiting Coordinator thing. I'm interested to see what Lester brings to the table.

Here's the thing with White, though...

McDonald has to get a gig somewhere else, and more importantly, the head coach there needs to be willing to bring White on as well. I can't imagine McDonald will get another OC job, and when have you ever heard of a receivers coach being allowed to tell the head coach who he's bringing on with him? Only way I could see McDonald being given the authority to bring White is if he's made the recruiting coordinator somewhere, and frankly if it's a school in a lower level conference, why would White want to leave to be at, say, Akron if Shafer or whoever wants to keep him on at an ACC school as a lead recruiter?

White was brought to Arkansas and left with McD. I don't think he's tied to McD, but it's clear he's on the radar of big-time schools.

I don't mean to suggest anyone isn't professional, but if there are two guys who might be leaving, you'd better make sure that other staff members are connecting with the verbals...just in case.

This gives McD a chance to work with the young receivers Custis, Ishmael, and Enoicy, because the offense is still going to be a disaster with our current group. Its time for the freshmen to join Lewis getting more of the reps at wide receiver. Its bad when the receiver who gets open the most is your tight end.

there is a change in O play calling and that is really all we know at this time. in time more will come out it always does.

They didn't say why at all, so it could be for any number of reasons.
the why is simple...shafer has lost his mind.

his post game presser was him basically telling us to remember the alamo, stay away from ebola infected people and to worry about ISIS.

then on sunday, he demotes his OC, thus signaling the end of his time on the hill.

he doesnt have a cue card for this.

he doesnt have a fire and brimstone sound bite.

hes got nothing...and now you all know it.

the timing couldnt be worse, everything needs to be sped up now.

can we get a new AD with a new HC in by december??

or do we have to witness this chaos again next year?? :bang::noidea::(

thank god the Giants are rolling.
