Melo Center Naming

Some historical perspective here. More than 20 years ago, Jim Boeheim realized SU needed better basketball facilities -- in great part for recruiting purposes -- because we were falling way behind all the other P-6 schools. When he approached the powers that be about the need, he was told ... okay, go raise the money. And that is what Jim did. I know without a doubt that Jim personally raised more than half the money for the Melo Center, including the lead gift from Melo himself and the next several largest gifts. I suspect no one was more upset by this new naming development than was JAB.

It’s disgraceful imo

What a last few days of news coming out of SU.

It’s sad. The fans and alum deserve better. Those who allowed and drove the incompetence deserve all the smoke and the consequences of owning the fact they drove things to the low they have reached. Unfortunately in many cases those folks have the resources and other interests to brush it off and not be bothered.

Happy this is all getting out everyone has been quick to blame coaches and a few important names of people we all know. And they should face some blame but these people sitting in the back, shot calling need to be called out for this too

Interestingly enough, its been stated on Syracuse sports radio that Melo actually was consulted by the school about this and agreed to it...so there is that also...

Am I the only one who thinks this is not a big deal and is a made up problem to get some loser engagement on social media?

100% this is an absolute nothing burger...

Even if it was a big deal, don't you all see that if Football is incredibly successful, basketball will also be successful. That is because the $$$$ brought in by football will help pay the bills an revenue sharing $$$$ for basketball.

There is a reason why the SEC is suddenly a bball powerhouse and its because they are taking their resources the schools are making from Football and using them for basketball.

Syracuse's community and fans biggest problem is they think they can only have one and yall constantly are fighting each other. My god its insane really.

Yup. The university already goes to great lengths to maintain Melo's support. Because of that, I don't believe they would not consult with him about the naming addition.

Steve Infanti just mentioned this on Orange Nation. Categorically stated that Melo was absolutely aware and in favor of the move. Gave this as an example of a random social media post that has no basis in fact and grows legs. (My words).

yea infanti said on his show that it's a non issue because melo knew and was in favor of it.
And Paulie added that Manley Field House is part of the Lally Athletics Complex, which it officially is not.

I am officially confused. I just walked by the areas and saw seven pieces of Lally signage. It’s dominant.

It's a big deal if it harms the school's relationship with Carmelo.

These are totally different things. Newhouse is a school that educates students about media -- journalism, advertising, production, etc.

Where SU fails, repeatedly, is normal human "communication". Like, talking to people and thoughtfully building consensus.
My comment about Newhouse and the basics of communication was a bit tongue in cheek ;)

Yes it is. The entire athletics footprint from football to Melo is the footprint of the athletics complex and it includes the former Manley

The lally name literally runs along the top of the entire former Manley field house it’s the center of the complex (the complex is football, athletics admin, former Manley, olympic sports all the way over to Melo)

Please provide me signage that says Manley Field House on the exterior of the Lally Complex.

Exactly it’s clearly part of the lally complex

Exactly, it was always connected to the rest of the athletics building but then the Lallys donated a ton of money to build the football operations center and re-do the Olympic non-revenue sports areas and so the WHOLE complex is known as the Lally Complex. If it was NOT for the Lally's $$$ this project would not have been done...
