Melo "legacy"

I don't hate Fab. The real story needs to come out; only then will we be able to assess whether and how he let his academics slide. There's nothing wrong with leaving for a pro career, but take care of your classes and support your teamates -- then if you have to, jump to the pros with a solid record behind you. There's plenty of academic support for players, and it can't be that hard to go through 2 semesters of college and learn something on the way to the NBA. Given all this support, the fact that he is struggling for the second time is hard to understand.

In the end, I don't Fans will forget about Fab; I just think they will remember a short career defaced by a big academic scar.

I am willing to bet Syracuse University has profited more than the 90k in free education Fab Melo has gotten in exchange for 2 years of basketball. While I am extremely disappointed in this suspension the venom and hate directed at Fab is not fair. He has screwed up, but in the long run its the coaching staff who extended the offer and Fab accepted. Acceptance is a 2 part street. We fanbase are the ones who are suffering, but I just wish we remembered these kids aren't pro athletes and are used just as much as they are given benefits. I get ticked off Nike is selling #11 Platinum jerseys for $129.99 a pop and Scoop Jardine is getting NOTHING of that when his jersey likeness is being used. I am sure most of the players who make it to the NBA give a little back to Syracuse. Donte Greene has and he only spent 1 year at SU.

Yeah, you're right, now that I've calmed down a bit. The team seems to have taken Melo's transgression in stride more than the fans, and he apologized to team members (which I had said he should do on another post). I had been thinking that the fans should take up a collection to build a Melo Doghouse next to the Melo Center, complete with a small fire hydrant for vengeful fans to relieve themselves (of their anger) -- but, again, that was before I calmed down. Time to move on.-VBOF
