I personally do not believe Noel will come here unless he has reason to believe that Melo goes bye-bye.

At this stage, I would be happy with either one being here next season.

Both - I would be shocked - a pipedream.

Hate to harsh your Melo, but he gone.

If Melo stays another season & keeps developing he can go high lottery. Now he probably goes bottom half of round 1. Yes, the odds may favor his departing, but I certainly do not see it as a done deal at this point in time. Much may depend upon how we do post-season & if Melo's projected draft status improves.

I've been thinking the same thing the last couple of days.

I really hope it's the either/or scenario. One thing I don't want to face is the dreaded "neither" scenario.

A third year Melo on the basketball court really intrigues me. I think he will continue to improve with leaps and bounds. A third year Melo in the classroom scares me.

Noel is a special, special player. I have no reason not to believe that he can come in and dominate the middle from day 1. The thought of him, Coleman and Christmas in our front court is down right scary. They could really punish opposing teams both offensively and defensively.

The money is not in the first contract, it's in the next one. The quicker you get to that, the more money you make. That's good advice.

There's a few things to consider:

This year's draft is fairly deep because of the larger amount of sophs in college that would have gone pro last year, but stayed in college because of the NBA lockout.

These 5 to 8 sophs make it more difficult for somebody like Melo to move into the first round.

If you don't make the first round there's no guaranteed contract. No contract means the likelihood of making ever getting a second contract a lot lower.

I hope Melo stays another year. He's a surefire 1st round pick next year. This year he's marginal.

It's too bad such young men continually get such poor advice.
Not so sure it's bad advice. If you can get guaranteed millions vs. balancing more guaranteed millions but putting yourself at risk for injury then you have a tough decision to make.

Melo + no feel school + no classroom = gonesville

I hate it too, but he is 110% gone after this season.

This is our year to try for another NC. We will lose Scoop, Kris, Dion and Fab hands down

If it were a choice, I would prefer the 3rd year Melo over the frosh Noel. Mainly for the offense. It takes a while for most bigs to develop the offensive skills and I feel Melo's will keep developing.

Unfortunately, I think Melo is gone. The odds just increased with the latest academic nonsense. In which case, I will gladly take Noel.

If he's projected top half of the first round, it's a no brainer. If he's projected bottom half then I think the smart move is to come back. You see guys every year that are told first round and then slip into the second. I like what SeattleCuse said. If we have one or the other we'll still be final four caliber. If Fab leaves, and we don't get Noel we'll be good but more likely in that second tier.

I think we definitely have a pretty good chance that NN comes here. He was at midnight madness and is pretty tight with MCW. He tweeted MCW about his dunk last night. He is coming this weekend. I would say we definitely are in the running.

But in rereading your post I just realized that you are qualifying it based on whether or not Fab is here. You could have a point there.

Assuming there is a next one. If you don't perform you're gone. Like what awaits Donte and Flynn. The NBA is about performing now and winning now. The GM's and coaches aren't on the same page.

Noel is way better than Melo... And beyond the fact that he's tall I'm not really sure why any NBA team would invest in Melo, too slow and can't jump, game doesn't even come very natural... He's played some very soft interior competition this year. Let's see what he does against other potential lottery picks, Anthony Davis for eg, hopefully in the final four...

I realize that Melo has improved 1000 pct... But in my opinion he's still not very good... Though he does very well for this team. Clogging the middle and not being selfish

your opinion sucks.

Much as I think NN is a fabulous talent, I would much rather have a junior Fab Melo with all of his skills, confidence, knowledge of the system, etc. However, I don't believe
that is realistic of us to expect. I am rooting hard for JB, Hop and MCW to close the deal for NN. We will certainly have a very tough fight on our hands though.

I think the "dreaded" stage has already passed with the commitment of DC2. The BMK/Rak center which we have seen with mixed results this year, was the dreaded version. From here on out, it's gravy. A DC2/junior BMK, emergency Rak center position, is top 5 BE, in my opinion. I just think DC2 will be our most frosh ready big in a long time.

What JB would do for starters would be interesting. His recent trend towards starting McD bigs would be put to the test. A starting front line of Noel, DC2, and Rak would be huge but not the usual offensive type JB likes. The guards would really have to be on top of their games starting out.

Melo has two games coming up against Drummond that will be a big tell about how he fares IMO.

Yep...same with Dieng. Dieng is having a nice season. 10 pts/10 reb/3.5 blk.

My only concern w/ DC2 is his weight. I'd love to see him drop some lbs. before coming onto campus.
