He played Richard Jefferson and Carlos Boozer more than Lebron and Melo. Amazing that such a successful coach could blow something that simple.

It's amazing what the guy can do with good teammates and good coaching. Although tonight was impressive, I really liked how he has deferred his scoring to his teammates when the situation called for it (especially on the last two Olympic teams). I think that it really dispels his reputation as a selfish player

I'm sorry I've got to play the worlds smallest violin for Melo being on crappy teams. His Denver teams were perennially in the stacked western playoffs. Good but not great teams, did make a WCF in 2009 and had the Lakers tied at 2-2, with at least one of those games Denver threw away with late turnovers. Melo forced a trade to a bad Knicks team, then after a few years of Dolan had a chance to escape and didn't take it. Melo put himself with a horrible Knicks organization.

I think he means the exhibition games going into the Olympics. Melo scored at will in those games. But once he got to Athens he couldn't get off the bench.

I'm sorry - I get the fact he made it clear that he wanted to play in New York, but Dolan is a complete moron and is 99% to blame for the "forced trade" and the situation the Knicks have been in. He is the one that overpaid to the millionth degree for Melo, who was scheduled to become a free agent in the summer anyway.

Again, I understand if you want to say Carmelo "forced" a trade because that is essentially how it played out. But it's management's responsibility to understand that they don't need to mortgage the future for a player who wants to play for them in less than a year. Players do not dictate who is included in trades for them.

Cannot stand the vast criticism from some about that trade. Carmelo should have kept his mouth shut but ultimately its Knicks management and his agent who are the people who should bear the brunt of it.

he had to have had an idea how 'ed up that organization was before he went there. my biggest SMH of the whole thing is Carmelo experienced the NYK dysfunction firsthand and didn't jump ship. I know he gets paid more but I'm not going to cry for him about being on a bad team. He's not trapped there like a reserve clause era MLB player.

It was his inflexible attitude towards young players that doomed that squad. He was always known for not playing rookies in the NBA. He carried that same attitude over into the Olympics. He wasn't going to play those guys unless everyone else blew their knees out. Melo was one of the best three point shooters on that team, and they needed scoring desperately.

I seem to remember Melo really wanted to lock in his extension before a potential lockout. I don't remember if he talked about extending with Denver, but people do need to remember Brooklyn was also very active in trying to get Melo and they ended up getting Deron Williams from Utah, so it's very possible if the Knicks don't pull the trigger Melo ends up with the Nets.

If he leads this Olympic team to gold he should seal his place in the hall of fame.

You think? I think the guy is going to end up int he HOF and I don't think he's going to need the Olympic career to really seal the case.

Forcing out Jeremy Lin? The Rockets offered him a "poison pill" contract that the Knicks would've been crazy to match. That had zero to do with Melo. So what though? Lin is a 10-12 PPG role player. Nice spark off the bench 3rd guard on a good team. His "Linsanity" couple weeks were great fun but he was never going to sustain that. People who act like he would've been a superstar in NY and it's Melo's fault that he's not are far from reality.

D'Antoni has been a pretty terrible coach in 3 of his 4 coaching jobs.

And I watch the Knicks often and strongly disagree with your late game assessment. Their struggles are all due to a lack of talent. Carmelo is all they have had the last few years. Porzingis will hopefully change that and develop into a all star level player soon. He showed a lot of promise last year. Rose and Noah being healthy and reverting to old form would really be nice, but I'm not real optimistic on that

Melo pretty clearly didn't like playing with Lin. I agree that the Linsanity thing didn't have staying power, but he did turn into a pretty solid rotational player. Though i am pretty sure better players than Melo have essentially run off better players than Lin before, I don't think Melo "ran off" Lin; I am pretty sure that Dolan didn't match because Lin pissed him off. That being said, I do think the Lin situation didn't reflect all that great on Melo; they had seemingly hit on something (how much was to be determined) with Lin and he did try and undermine it.

Pass to who? Give him good players he trusts and he will pass.
Didn't he lead the Knicks in scoring, rebounding and assists this year?
