Melo

Forcing out Jeremy Lin? The Rockets offered him a "poison pill" contract that the Knicks would've been crazy to match. That had zero to do with Melo. So what though? Lin is a 10-12 PPG role player. Nice spark off the bench 3rd guard on a good team. His "Linsanity" couple weeks were great fun but he was never going to sustain that. People who act like he would've been a superstar in NY and it's Melo's fault that he's not are far from reality.

D'Antoni has been a pretty terrible coach in 3 of his 4 coaching jobs.

And I watch the Knicks often and strongly disagree with your late game assessment. Their struggles are all due to a lack of talent. Carmelo is all they have had the last few years. Porzingis will hopefully change that and develop into a all star level player soon. He showed a lot of promise last year. Rose and Noah being healthy and reverting to old form would really be nice, but I'm not real optimistic on that
this post should be cut and saved and injected into every anti-Melo/Knick post from now on.

all truth.

however, I am optimistic on Rose and Noah being healthy and reverting to old form. :noidea:

I am too.

This was supposed to be a thread celebrating Melo's contributions to USA basketball and how he is a great representation of Syracuse University on a global stage and yet some of you just continue to criticize him at any chance you get. Unbelievable. Some of you must really be miserable.

Noah will probably be pretty good when he plays, but I doubt he plays a lot. Rose I think is just not going to be good at all.

Say what you want about the poison pill deal for Lin, in what would have been his third year of the deal, the one that was so onerous, they paid Andrea Bargnani $11.5 million, and traded a first round pick for the pleasure of doing so.

to me, this is the bad trade. not the Melo trade, this one.

the deal for amare and this, that is what killed the Knicks.

not, not keeping the crap they traded for Melo.

Think you could make an argument Olympic Melo is the peak for basketball players.

Or LeBron vs the Magic in 09

I don't know, I struggle with this, even assuming Melo has the best olympic numbers (which I'm not sure is the case, it may be) I think the competition level has to be considered.

For instance, in 2012, Lebron averaged, per 36 minutes, 19/9/9 on 67% true shooting, with more steals (11) than turnover (8). Basically over a 5 to 1 Asst:TO ratio. Melo averaged 33(!)/9/3 on a 69% true shooting. I guess Melo's numbers on the surface are better? But he scored 37 points in 14 minutes vs Nigeria; that was an all time performance, but it was also Nigeria. So I dunno.

The biggest takeaway is if you could get Melo in that same situation on an NBA team he'd be really dangerous; but I don't see how that's going to happen, at least until he gets a few years older.

I love Melo but he's created his own mess in a lot of ways and his refusal to pass in key late game possessions even though he has no shot has cost the knicks a number of games over the years.

Pass to who? The team gives him the ball and then 4 guys stand still and watch him.
