MercyHurst PostGame

We continue to play like we have accomplished something. We haven't and won't. Poorly coached and overrated talent in terms of basketball talent and understanding.
Mercyhurst had the best guard in the building tonight. That's insane.

Wow his presser is a flat out disaster. Talks about almost nothing tangible.

Gets very testy with Mario Sacco, who seems like a great guy and asked a very fair question about the offense. He’s trying to emulate Boeheim by intimidating the media and hasn’t built up nearly the credibility to do that

Vs Tennessee they each had 10 it's, Donnie had 4 rebounds to Shadiq's 9 and Shadiq had 3 steals to 0. I know 2 different teams but Donnie hasn't played very well against tougher competition.
I guess we'll see how they both do throughout the season but I still don't see Donnie taking over games against tougher competition.
Donnie has far greater upside on the offensive side of the court in my opinion. Before his injury Donnie was a fairly highly rated NBA prospect. White may get to that level before he leaves but he is not there now.

Missed the game.

FTs look good!

JJ seemingly bounced back. Granted it’s against a bad team but still looks good in the box score.

3pt shooting looks bad.

Based on this thread seems like a bad effort on almost all parties though.

That’s tough. Tonight should be a get right game for everyone.

Trying to stay positive, and I didn’t see it, but the sentiment of the majority seems pretty uninspiring. Too bad.

Red, just ask Devendorf who is forced to watch this garbage every week and has the same obvious pointers. Just an absolutely brutal thing to say publicly.
Listen to Devensorf and would like him on the bench. He clear sees the problem and would be blunt if not in the players face for playing poorly. Team is a bunch of individuals on the floor.
I know everyone is waiting for Donnie but not sure how much the team will improve. He has a lot of potential but been injured so much it’s hard to see the impact he’ll make against good teams.
Concerning Red. If he truly believes there is no issues with the offense then the season is already lost. Anyone watching knows this team has no offensive system.

We had a 14 pt lead about half way through the first half. It was dead even after that. I thought mercyhurst may have been the least talented D1 team we’ve played in the NIL era and they basically hung with us 75% of the game

No point in keeping on saying that, with Donnie he might come back and get hurt again. Until he can prove he can play regularly without getting hurt, he's not worth talking about.

Well, we're not going anywhere without him.
It's like Waiting For Godot at this point.

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but doing it now. On the opening possession, we ran two off ball screens (pin downs) for Kingz and then George (Kyle missed the screen for George’s man) and then George found Kyle posted up inside and he dished to Sadiq for a lay-in. The coaches clearly know how to design sets with movement, so why isn’t it happening consistently or translating to the players? Why for the rest of the game are the players so stagnant and all standing around the perimeter? Is it poor teaching and/or communication? Red doesn’t seem to be getting buy-in. He should be calling out different sets every time down the court, just like JB used to do.

I've seen us run offense, but it's like maybe for 2 or 3 minutes at a time, where guys cut through the lane, set picks, move without the ball. And then it reverts to guys standing around on the perimeter and running the high pick offense where the pick man can't pop out and be a shooting threat. If we don't run, we almost never run good offense.

That's what Donnie could give us - but Autry didn't use him that way last year. He used immobile Eddie as the pick man 20 feet from the basket. If Donnie comes back and he's not the high pick man with Will Kyle in the low post, then let's just forget it. We're only marking time until the end of the season.

Please note the difference in tenor between the NC state coach's post game comments (they won by 36) vs ours.

'We're running a competitive basketball program. And quite frankly, I've been trying to get some urgency and some internal leadership, and I think Q's [Quadir Copeland] done a pretty good job. Outside of Q and Ven [Allen Lubin], the guys are playing about as well as we can ask them to play. We've got a lot of casual personalities on our team. We don't have people that are revved up and ready to go. I had one of the kids come to me, I'm tough. I said, , you're not in the top 50 of the toughest players I've coached, not even the top 50. I don't want to hear that. You ain't tough."

" I did think Ven and Q took a step forward with their leadership. But like today, in our shooter round, we made 88 mistakes in our shoot around. I chart, all of it. We made 88 mistakes in our shoot around. We made 23 defensive errors, 13 offensive execution error, the other the other ones were different. 36 errors on those. Our first team made 14. Our second team made 22. How the hell can you be on the second team and watch the first team do it and make eight more mistakes. You're running the same stuff, casual, lack of attention to detail, lack of focus. And that's great when you have somebody sets the ACC record for made threes and the school record for made threes, but we're relying on hope that one of these cats is going to go ballistic every night. That's what we rely on, just hope, and hope's a bad strategy in my book."
