I love JV. Who doesn’t, even at this point? This was NOT what we thought would happen when the University pushed him out.
I kinda thought it might go this way. Red was hired to placate a lot of constituents who refused to recognize that Boeheim had to go. Red was also a total wild card.

We all root for him. It would have been great if a Boeheim guy succeeded him and had great success. But that was always unlikely.

Great post.

6 turnovers for Nait George against Mercyhurst is simply too many.
His handle is way too loose, He tries to get too pretty because he is lacking confidence exponentially. Your point guard needs to be your dog and everyone will follow. I tragically believe he is the main issue. He doesn't even lead them on the floor let alone take over a game at the end, my gosh he doesnt even provide a stabilizing force when it goes South I when it always does and will for even the best teams. He doesn't do any of that. Seems like a hyper nice kid though and I am as big of an SU Homer all time. There is a time to get nasty and I do not see that in him. Sad to watch. Coach Adrian Autry would need to be the one to bring out that in him, he is a New York City point guard, What is it going to take. I guess we will see.

Great post.
To be fair, I’m no Nostradamus and I tend to be irrationally optimistic.

So when Red spun up his yarns about the orange standard I was all in. And after year 1 I was still in his corner. He did OK with JB’s dysfunctional misfit toys.

I just had a strong inkling he was toast after the 2024 offseason. That was a debacle and all the excuses about NIL and Dakota Lefew were nonsense. It was clear that Red wasn’t up to running a modern program.

We were hoping for Ennis. We got Jalen Carey

He really should have been gone before this season. I found an interesting parallel between my Patriots and my Orange. Patriots cut bait after one season of Mayo knowing it was wrong and that every season, month, or game longer would deepen the hole from which the program would need to climb out.

Syracuse chose to be "nice".

25 years then. Come on, I’m old!!
Ok. You get a pass. But yeah I’m on the same page as you. UConn was a nobody when I grew up. Then we went on probation and they grabbed the baton. Even before that, I still remember Tate George’s shot vs Clemson (i think) while at IC and thinking what a great moment for such a try hard school. Little did we know that the shot he made awakened a giant.

If by nice you mean cheapskates who didn’t want to rock the boat with Melo, yes

I suspect the issue was that we had a lot of people close to the program who like Red and made excuses for last offseason.

I get it, honestly I was fine giving him one more year.

I don’t think one more mediocre year makes a difference at this point. We’ve been largely mediocre since 2017, what’s one more lost year?

People here don’t want to admit it. But UConn has MUCH higher standards for their program than we do. And they have for a long time.

Sad, but true!

"There's nothing wrong with our offense."

Actual quote from this team's head coach just now.

Whatever. They chose not to be aggressive and cut the cord when it was clearly not working. So now we have to go through this exercise where the number of gaslit loyalists shrinks, but they are still out there. But does the total shrink enough that the cacophony of those calling for change is too great? I'll believe it when I see it with Syracuse. And even if they do make a change, will they spend what is needed to do a real national search that allows them to bring in someone fresh and innovative rather than someone cheap and easy? Ill REALLY believe it when I see that.

Lol, Dakota Lefew! Ghost of Christmas past!!! Still haunting us after not joining last year's famous team!😂
I couldn’t pick him out of a lineup of one. But I’ll always remember that not meeting his NIL demand sunk the SU hoops program.
