Miami first half demonstrates three things

In a perfect world, Marek is off the bench. There are certain lineups he can cook against. Certain ones he cannot.

Love the guy. But he should really not be starting for a top tier ACC team (which we aren't).
Just my opinion. Starting this year means nothing outside of center.
If Jesse were to start I think Griff should come off the bench. Maybe with Kadary (fresh). #1. ball handling, #2 court vision #3 shots closer to the basket #4 offensive boards at SF (after Q pounds it in). #5. seniority and court vision knowing the system 3 years more. And that's no knock on Griff With a Senior 6'10 point forward ahead of him. Most of all, Griff and Kadary makes more sense than Dolezaj at the 4 with kadary. Save Dolezaj and Kadary together for rare circumstances on opposite sides of the offense, with one on the wing when Jesse is on the floor.

Griff is has a real shot to become a first-team/second team all ACC next year. IMO something like spending the whole off-season working on dribbling through cones and passing it off at the end and shooting tons of shots afterwards. He's got too good of a second gear not to.

i don’t hang my hat on isolated games or moments either..or eye tests..

the suggestion that your biggest concern to date has been subs not producing is an interesting theory. One that doesn’t match the actual stats.

i will agree that I don’t care who gets the Ws. hope the proper lineups are used to get those Ws instead of Ls as we go through the rest of the season
Stats can be very deceiving, especially in a short period of time. Someone posted tonight that one of the subs was on track to have so many points and so many this and that. I forget who the sub was but it was probably in jest anyway but does go to my point. I know what I have observed.

What I now observe is two people who love SU and want them to succeed and big. I think JB did a good job tonight with the lineups but I also believe Miami to be a lousy team and poorly coached tonight.

Hope springs eternal even for an old cynical fart like me.

It was too me since last season.
The end of last season he was looking good. He was so far out of shape coming back this year that this is the first time has looked serviceable. He has been pushed all over the place so far this year Finally he looked good tonight. Lets hope this keeps up going forward.

  1. The offense functions exponentially better when we have a true lead guard [Kadary] out on the floor
  2. The defense is markedly better with Kadary in the game
  3. Girard is much better suited to playing off the ball, and his effectiveness will ratchet up when he does
This has actually been known on the pay side for much longer. ;)

44cuse

I really liked the way Jesse was competing for rebounds. Would be such a game changer if he can give us 6 and 6 and a decent presence on defense. And yes I’m daring to dream after 1 decent game. We need something to cling to here.

Being as tall as he is .. and somewhat mobile .. he causes problems for the opposition simply by being in the area

Doesn’t edwards seem taller than 6’11? He seems at least 7’0 compared to other dudes listed heights

I rewatched the game last night, and one thing [to your point] that stood out is how Edwards rebounds.

He's an "apex" rebounder. Let me define -- I'm not saying "apex" as in top of the food chain, a la Derrick Coleman, I mean that he seems to go up and get the ball at the highest point, and then he keeps it up high after he secures it.

Good to see, frankly. Kid desperately needs to get stronger and add some size, but it was an encouraging flash of what he might be able to do as a rebounder.

This has nothing to do with where our players should be playing and everything to do with why we won last night and should have a better record than we do.

“We didn't have Buddy for a bunch of games," coach Boeheim said of his youngest son, who with Girard had struggled of late. "I think Buddy's just starting to get his rhythm back a little bit from all the time out and having the COVID, the whole thing. I think he's getting it back. Both Joe and Buddy were out with it. They were sick.

"Everybody knows this happens and knows that they were (out), but then they expect them to come back and play like nothing ever happened. It just doesn't work that way. When Joe plays like that, we’re a different team.”

And we are.

Why did we score 2 points in the first 7 mins if this was the case?

Did their fatigue go away once Kadary came in?

Why not? Didn't the board do that about Sidibe's breakout Pitt game?

His frame (unlike Marek’s) looks quite compatible with adding a bunch of weight without a problem .. he in fact .. looks like he could be a monster

Brooks is 7-0 240. Timberlake is 6-6 215 (same as Champagnie). Walker is 6-9 210.

Miami only got outboarded by 6 vs UNC.
yeah these narratives that emerge are... weird - we also outrebounded G'town, which is statistically one of the best rebounding teams in the country (and completely negated a big, potentially dominant 5 in Wahab), and hung in there vs the dual bigs of Rutgers.
Ppl see the unc game and then what Champagnie did and go with the WE'RE DOOMED AGAINST ANY TEAM THAT HAS DECENT BIGS narrative - 'lot more to it than that

The size of Jesse is what makes a difference. 7-0 with a 7-5 wingspan takes up a lot of space, either forcing a quicker shot or the opponent to pause, makes it harder to get position on the boards and likely gives you a very good shot to have your guy be the first to get to the rebound in the air. Statistically these things may not add up in large numbers but game impact is significant enough to warrant continuation of his being a key contributor minutes wise.

and whom, I might add, acquitted themselves quite well vs the bigs of L'vlle and vs Funderburk/Bates of NC st

RE: UNC I'm ok if they grab a few more rebounds than us because that's part of their whole offensive strategy, and they're one of the best in the country at it. But that game and had 14 more offensive rebounds than us which is too much for my liking

oh I hear you - we got absolutely dominated on the glass in that game, it was unacceptable - my point is more about the narrative that it's been that way in all our games, or even most of our games

I have to agree. We just have to hope JB sees this. I think it’s painfully obvious a change is needed at PG.
He will see this when he gets wipers for that ridiculous mask he wears.

- Kadary is a good PG, which we all knew
- Miami is very bad. We all probably knew this, too.
- Joe shoots better off the catch. Again, we all knew it.
- Jesse Edwards can at least play against bigs who aren’t super physical. A surprise to most/all.

I still prefer starting games with Joe and Buddy. If anything, today showed the spark Kadary can provide off the bench, which is the spark everybody said they’ve been looking for.
I can go with Joe and Buddy starting the game as long as the wait to get Kadary in isn't after 10 minutes and we are playing extremely poor on defense, shooting and moving the ball. Kadary could be "plan B" not plan "if all else fails".

I’m on board with this

I kinda like that mask. It's way better than the idiotic mesh masks so many coaches wear.
