Miami postgame

After re-watching the game today, I have a couple of additional observations/comments on the 4th Qtr.:

1. I hope Sparrow is OK. Looked like he injured his knee, which is never good. Even though he saw his role diminished this year, it would be a crappy way to end his season.

B. I wonder if HCFB was tempted to go for a 2 pt. conversion after the "Running into the Kicker" penalty on our final score would have moved the ball to the 1.5 yd line? On one hand, a successful conversion would have given us an 8 pt lead, but if not, a 6 pt lead leaves the door open for a 1 point loss.

III. Speaking of which, the NCAA has to come up with a better option that moving the ball up to the 50 on the ensuing kick-off? It's hardly penalizing the defense when the KO is usually going to be a touchback anyways.

#3 is why you squib it. Or in the case of yesterday you do an onside kick. Worst case they get the ball at the 40 in a game where both teams were scoring. 15 yards is worth trying to get the ball back.

Youtube was highlighting some Orange vblogs I do not subscribe to, but some very amusing miami podcasts came up as well. My favorite was a guy in the old multicolored clown wig, very disappointed 14 minute rant, that ended with the immortal quote

"We lost to fruit...we lost to a color"
I just howled, if you are interested

The ones I heard were pretty fair, they dumped on their WR for the head butt, which he deserved, and their coach for going with the FG and trusting their defense.
They didn't think they should have lost to Syracuse, but I expected that.

I have to say, I enjoyed his pain...immensely!

It obviously is water under the bridge now, but did anyone else think that Miami got away with at least a few false starts/illegal shifts? There was one on one of their rushing TDs that was very suspect.
My whole section thought so. Especially their early touchdowns.

Running errands and shopping with misses today. I had on a cuse hat, wife wore a syracuse hoodie. 3 different places people started talking to us about the game. Two of those spots were people in their 20's and they were super pumped. This game has the potential to launch a new era of prosperity for the program. I am 46 and I've never seen such enthusiasm in the community after a win.

Haven't seen this posted yet, this is hilarious to me.

I'm shocked to hear this. After the injury time-out, he was helped off the field being supported under each arm by a member of the SU training staff. He was clearly in pain, favoring is (right?) knee. Usually with seemingly serious joint injuries, players are held out until diagnostic imaging can be performed, in order to avoid further injury. Being so late in the game, I wouldn't have expected to see him back on the field.

I thought they were stretching out his calf on the field, which made me think that maybe he was cramping. But odd to have to get helped off the field like that if it was a cramp, unless it was an especially severe one.

Annoucers kept saying it was a legal motion. On what planet can you jump the start and be moving forward at the snap.a player flinches and it's a false start but you can start running toward the LOS to block before the snap now?

The key is the direction of the motion. He can be a split second early as long as he is moving horizonal to the line of scrimmage. To me though on the TD the back was moving diagonally towards the center and not straight along the ling of scrimmage. To me that's a false start. Plus, it's not that hard of a call. The line judge/head linesman are looking right down the line of scrimmage. It's not difficult to tell if someone is moving forward towards the line or is moving straight towards/away from you.

I still think Miami coaches discussed it with the stripes pre game alerting them to the formation and motion. They did it a couple of times and it wasn't called so it wasn't a one miss thing. To me he was moving horizontally and maybe towards the line a smidge early but no earlier than an OT on 90% of the pass plays jumping the gun.

Looking at the sideline and Cristobal during the game it hit me like a sledgehammer. He IS their version of Marrone! Real meathead.

So it's okay to overlook UM's false start (sudden motion shaded to the line) because they had a pre-game convo with Cristobal, but throw the flag on SU (and negate a TD) for too many players in the backfield (which was ridiculous)? I don't buy it. Not claiming it's "rigged", just poor quality officiating.

No it's not okay. My belief is he was horizontal to the line.

IIRC he moved suddenly and, yes to be fair to your post, somewhat laterally. But it also appeared that right after he jolted he turned his helmet and shoulders toward the LOS, simulating a false start. That's what got HCFB's attention. And not for nothing, pre-game conversations (with only one side) shouldn't influence what flags get thrown (not criticizing you only the inconsistent officiating).
