I'm not convinced at all that the university wants out of the stadium business. They just want a better bottom line.
Future access since 81 and 481 are both right there.

I don't need sunshine and rainbows, but claiming to be "just keeping it real" when you go out of your way to look at everything from a negative slant is just not something I want to read. Plus he and his writers seem to take everything from this site anyway, much like Syracuse.com.
This was all discussed at the tailgate Friday night.
thank goodness, it would be crazy if they didn't. Think of how much property opens up once the overpass gets taken down. Not to mention the amount of real estate that would have to be leveled in order to put an updated overpass in it's place.I'll chip in here - lots of discussion about bringing down 81 overpass to a blvd level and re-routing 81 from 481 to 690 x-change back to 81 up to Destiny. Might have no Interstate access to SU except from 690 (converted to 81 or back end by Drumlins from Jamesville exit). SU strongly supports this option.
absolutely not. A rumor I've heard - but seems to be dead - is the concept of acquiring land along Ainsley drive where the university already owns properties.GoSU96 said:I can't tell if you are being sarcastic.
Twice the footprint. What if the roof was fixed but the Dome was retractable?

You rarely see buildings repurposed like that (Hearst Tower?). Easier, and cheaper, to just start over. If they repurposed the original dome, there'd be no windows. If you repurposed the (possible) new "glass" roof, you have a massive vault underneath. If it's a dome reno, makes me think the dome will be staying put for a long, long time.
Brick facade? Sounds like future academic building to me.
only bad news ends up therejust throwing this out there...has the news made it to ESPN yet??
Interesting. Here's a google view of the area -- showing how close this would be to 481. Much improved ingress/egress. Looks like there's an expanded parking lot already in place, and a large cleared area. Unfortunately, it might be (30 years) too late for this site, since new construction creates more issues than it solves: 1) if soft roofs are no longer practical, any new facility would need a hard roof (a Dome renovation requires only the roof); and 2) what happens to the Dome? Has to be an enormous cost to deconstruct it and convert it to other uses.absolutely not. Putting a stadium there with ample parking / tailgating.
Keeping Skytop (which is currently expanding its parking capacity). Ainsley drive is turned into a sports complex and the Brighton Ave interchange gets beefed up to handle increased loads with easy access to 81/481 and all points north, south, east, west.
From how I've heard it, I assume it was looked at early and likely dismissed as too expensive / slow process with all the land/properties that would have to be acquired.
It would be a Brilliant location though.

Sports management, Falk stuff, Newhouse stuff, new sports science institute, physical therapy and rehab school, or even research institute. Just needs some forward thinking. Make it rehab and reach out to the military for musculoskeletal research, prosthetic design, TBI rehab. The options are there and that is the mechanism for additional funding.
