Minnesota hiring Nick Monroe

I would rather have Long as the DC. That’s an opportunity you can’t pass up. He can win us games himself. We just need to hire someone who can recruit .
That...is not easy.

Our WR coach has not done it. And we lost Tony White who was great.

A great recruiter is coveted. I doubt Rocky Long has that guy. Dino doesn't.

We need to pay up for the position hire to come for a great recruiter.

was 30 years ago? Seriously Coach P and D caught lightning in a bottle and did great, Syracuse supports winners. The buzz shaw quote is so overrated, maybe 2 guys from mattydale and nerds on the internet got their nose out of joint but had nothing to do with the long term failure of the football program,
What's overrated about it? It represented a time when there wasn't much investment in the program financially. They were there to fund ventures around campus. One of the auditoriums was constructed using money from the 97 Fiesta Bowl. There's a plaque commemorating it iirc. Had a number of classes there.

I agree. Based on track record I don't see him hiring specifically for recruiting.

Let's be honest. How long do you see Johnson hanging around Syracuse?

I'm surprised he hasn't moved on yet.

So….. did this go something like, swag daddy says I need more money then what I’m getting and SU either had to say:

“Yes daddy”

Or

“No daddy”

That whole thing must have been awkward.

“Big daddy, where’d you leave the keys to the jet?”

I'm not a recruiting wonk but I don't understand the "rock star" comments about his recruiting. Being a rock star recruiter for our program is sort of like being the best soldier in -Troop. Finding diamonds and coaching them up huge loss, recruiting svengali ...dont see it.
Troop, LMAO. Whaddya mean, Parmenter, Agarn, O'Rourke, Hannibal Dobbs and Duffy were an elite group. O'Rourke Entreprises teaming with the Howacowees? was a great partnership. Wrangler Jane constantly saving Wilton Parmenter's ass every episode was great too.

Bummer to see Monroe go, but the way I look at it, he was a high level guy on staff for 7 years (can't ask for more than that), and Rocky Long was and still is the absolute best choice as DC. I get the reaction people are having saying Monroe should have been promoted, or that he should have been co-DC with Long, but that is massively, massively underrating Rocky.

We have some jobs to fill and probably need to restore some confidence among some of the players, but the goals next year remain the same.

I think it’s amusing that just a few weeks ago we hired Long as DC and people thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Now not so much.
I think if we knew that Nick would leave if not given the DC job many of us would have wanted him promoted to DC vs bringing in even someone as accomplished as Rocky. For me one of the things i liked the most about his hiring was that it seemed certain that he would be here a few years and Nick would take over when he left. I personally thought based on Nicks interview that it had been part of his hiring. Had been part of the plan. Maybe it was and we got trumped but maybe it wasnt and although Nick took the high ground in his interview he was actually disappointed.

my wife always knows that when I'm down in the dumps, 80% of the time it has something to do with Syracuse. 10% job related, 10% family related. I'll be bitching and moaning about something inconsequential and she'll say "Syracuse lost today I'm assuming?"
As my wife calls us all (I hope with some affection!), with that shared reality, welcome to the “Cuse loser” club bro!

Not spending money on the program was that idiots fault. Without Bragman getting money from the state there wouldn't have been a football program.

I'm old enough to remember the last time we gave a recruiting guy his first coordinator position. Because it was 10 years ago, almost to the day.

After about 300 unsuccessful bubble screens where 1 WR had to block 3 defenders, he completely melted down.

I'll take Long over Monroe if one decision led to the other. In the new world, we're more of a transfer destination for guys looking for playing time anyway.

That's the story I'm spinning, and I'm sticking to it.

Been here for 6 years, that's an eternity for a position coach. Guy's getting a promotion and more money (likely MUCH more money).

This dynamic certainly isn't new, I mean once upon a time Nick Saban was an SU position coach.

Time to go raid the staff of another team, replace him, and make that fanbase sad.

Circle of life.
I remember Bill Maxwell and Norm Gerber were here for an eternity under Mac and maybe under P for awhile too

If we are assistant coach hunting we clearly need at least one if not two from Florida or have worked in Florida. That is a big area we need to maintain some sort of presence down there.

Think our next assistant hoops HC hire will show us exactly how serious this AD intends to be about the growing issue of being a bubble school in this realignment conflict
Fixed.

Sorry, I’ve always wanted to do that & it only took me like 3 mins to figure out how to put a line through a word.

Carry on.

But putting guys in the NFL only increases his recruiting prowess. Our DB room was and still is stacked because guys recruited by Monroe, came here for Monroe and became stars because of Monroe
Cisco
Trill
Deuce
Garret Williams

Trust me Monroe is a beast of a recruiter
(Lol at FTroop line)

In the history of CFB has there ever been a team that lost so many key pieces while the head coach stayed in place?
No one got fired. No one retired. Everyone left on their own accord for greener pastures
OC
DC
Top Assistant / recruiter
Top CB
Top Safety

It’s been an absolutely brutal stretch since we were 6-0 and ranked 12th Nation

*Edit* not counting players who graduated or went to draft

Is it possible Nick was going to leave and was for the hiring of Rocky because of that?

I wonder how many recruits Nick is going to bring to Minny with him from 24 that were high on SU from FL and NJ? We saw what White did. That school seems to be spending some of their Big 10 $'s more aggressively than before.
