Minnesota hiring Nick Monroe

Is it possible Nick was going to leave and was for the hiring of Rocky because of that?

I wonder how many recruits Nick is going to bring to Minny with him from 24 that were high on SU from FL and NJ? We saw what White did. That school seems to be spending some of their Big 10 $'s more aggressively than before.
I think they knew nick was leaving and they went all in on rocky

i am not all surprised. i would have promoted monroe. i do we need the best east coast recruiter we can find.

And now we are left with a 70 something year old meant to recruit 16-18 year olds. Where have I seen this play out before in a catastrophic way. Hmmmm. This is worst loss of the year in my mind
That's not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

So I was able to find some salary numbers to provide a rough gauge of what the difference is between Big 10 and Syracuse. Joe Rossi just was extended as DC and will make $1.1 million and bumps to $1.2 in year 3. He is signed through 2025. Tony White had a salary of $640k with additional compensation to bump it to $705k. I couldn't find Monroes salary but you have to figure it was not more than Whites base of $640k. I don't see what Nick is making but as Co DC one could guess it's up there. Add he personally knows the current DC AND Monroes family is from there. Even IF Nick was our DC he would have left for Minnesota because of those factors.

This was my second thought, (oh $@&%#! was first). Minny was talking to him, and then White leaves. Dino comes to him with the title, but the lure of the money and a return home was too strong (at that point, the whole mob was in doubt as Wax and Caleb hadn’t declared anything yet). Dino, in desperation completes a Hail Mary and lands Long. That convinces some, like Wax, Caleb to stay (in part thinking Monroe was on board, and that’s what has me worried).

Monroe said conversations didn’t take place until after the Pinstripe Bowl.

Man that was a quick yes from Monroe when Fleck asked.

Wonder if Dino knew that no matter what, if Minnesota came calling, he'd be gone no matter.
I've been telling guys Nick has gotten good offers the last few years (including SEC). Amazing Dino kept him this long. I thought he was gone a couple years ago. Minnesota was a game changer. Its where his father coached.

Read the article after I posted. That said, I find it hard to believe there were no previous conversations with Coyle, or Rossi even suggesting “man, when I get a chance; wouldn’t it be great to work together!?”

Going to take him at his word. He’s going home. I get it. He’s a family guy - it’s in part why he stayed at Syracuse so long.
I felt better about this after reading Nick's remarks. More money, more job security, a better title and a chance to return home, and be with his parents at a time they probably really need him.

So going forward can we not have someone with deep family ties and roots in Minnesota? Really starting to hate that freaking program. Even though I completely understand this move for Monroe and don't question it for a second on his part.

In the history of CFB has there ever been a team that lost so many key pieces while the head coach stayed in place?
No one got fired. No one retired. Everyone left on their own accord for greener pastures
OC
DC
Top Assistant / recruiter
Top CB
Top Safety

It’s been an absolutely brutal stretch since we were 6-0 and ranked 12th Nation

Don’t forget some of the “analysts” that have left as well and I think at least 1 person in the recruiting dept

Parker Baldwin. He is currently our Quality Control Coach (defense). He played four years at San Diego State under Rocky Long as a safety. The Aztec rover position to be exact. Same position Urlacher played for Long.
He knows the 335 as a coach and player now.
Could be a good young cheap option to move into DB Coach position.

I one point I thought Nick might have felt slighted for not getting the DC position. Now I get the feeling that he felt Dino would be fine now that he has Long. That made the decision to leave him easier.

Also wondering how much Fleck was impressed with our defense that day, especially moving to some of the 4-2-5 looks and knowing all the missing personnel. They really struggled as the game settled in.

Possibly. It shows he's competent enough to run a unit efficiently. The extra DT was a nice look. It allowed them to withstand the run.
