Minnesota hiring Nick Monroe

Losing a quality Coach hurts but…

Tired of winning championships. Wants to go to a place where everything is stacked against you.
He went to Georgia from Rutgers so...

Sure Brown would be a nice hire. But…

He’s currently at Georgia and makes $750K a year.

Georgia or Syracuse, Georgia or Syracuse, National Champs or Syracuse.

Tough decision. Anyone have a coin?
well does he wanna come home or close to home to be near family cuz that's what's important they all say, not the $, then change ones mind when the big $ offer comes leaving said family? Not saying that's necessarily bad as I'd likely do it too for the $ we're talking about, but when hired they should all skip the parts about how family was the main driver, dream job, etc. Just shut up, do it and count their $

The more I think about it, maybe he was going to leave soon anyway. Just like Anae. Though the same can be said of any good defensive coordinator at this point.

What's lost in all this is that Chris Achuff is a fantastic coach and it's entirely possible he could succeed Rocky Long as the DC in the future. The DL was young, undersized, and injured yet he made it work with good coaching. Don't think I saw him ever mentioned as a DC successor but that seems more possible now.

We’ve lost quite a few assistant coaches over the years and we survived. I would say losing Nick Saban, Ed Ogeron, and Tom Coughlin are bigger losses than Monroe. I’m sure I messed several more. We lost Coach Mac and survived too. Let’s see who Dino brings in before we determine the program is dead and buried.

Umm….. this is not remotely close to those situations although your last point is valid

This gives some idea what Minnesota pays. It's from Jan 2022 so it gives an idea what they made this past season.

I'm guessing that as a co- he'd be getting $500,000-$600,000.

Rossi got a bump to $1.1 million and was extended through 2025. The last year of his salary goes to $1.2 million. My guess would be Nick as Co DC is landing around $900k/$950k. It won't be equal to Rossi but it is a damn good chunk of change is my guess. It won't be long before it gets published. Again Co DC, huge likely pay raise, his dad once coached there if I heard correctly, his family is there and his parents are elderly and he will now be closer. No one on this board would say no to a fact set like that in a similar situation. For the avoidance of doubt he 100% made the right decision financially. professionally and for his family. Good luck to him. He did Syracuse a solid by staying as long as he did. We have done well on rebounding hires in recent years and will likely be happy with who JW and Dino bring in.

Apples>>> Peaches, though.

Oh yeah I would definitely 100% agree with that! We need recruiters here at Syracuse very bad and and we all know the number For our latest class that we had coming in this year were terrible and and the only really good news we had were those transfers coming in In the defensive backfield now I hope to God they don't leave But yeah it's obvious that we need a superior recruiter/coach in your ponto

Big Ten just has more money to throw at coaches. It's an ACC problem outside of Clemson, FSU, Miami
Does ESPN have any interest in redoing this contract ?? I mean I don't know what the h*** this guy was thinking I know hes trying to keep the conference intact but he must have seen this kind of thing coming and you Signing a contract that is almost 15 to 20 years long is mind boggling to me
He may not have brought in 5 stars but he consistently brought in all americans and nfl talent.
Yes this one is really tough to swallow. I just hope that they are smart about who they replace him with! They have to think about the very Turbulent times that we are in , realinement and we need to do What needs to be done, whatever it cost because we are either gonna be getting paid very well in the future or getting paid jack s*** it's that simple. Imo

Huh? I mean the top SEC teams lose 6-8 guys to the NFL draft every year. Usually a couple staff members too.
Yes I should’ve done better job clarifying - losing players that aren’t DQ’d/graduate/ drafted. Meaning they just decide to go somewhere else. Obviously this only really applies to portal era.

I was trying to observe how we got double whammied by portal/ NIL on top of an exodus of our top 3 coaches under HC.

Some quick analysis from afar:

We lost Tony White: definitely a tough loss. However, TW was not as flexible or creative as a DC as seen in the second half of the season when the injuries mounted.

We Hired Long as DC: As Master of the 3-3-5, few can rival him. Many big boys have fallen to his much smaller G5 teams. Think what he will do with P5 players.

We lost Monroe: Monroe stunted more in the bowl game, shutting down a powerful offense. It remains to be seen whether this was his idea or under consult from Long, but credit is due, Monroe executed and the defense executed. A defense that was missing several starters and upperclassmen.

We lost Anae: a proven offensive guru. Also a hard nose perfectionist.

We retained/promoted Beck: the QB whisperer and the one who coaches players to "play on". While execution is important, everyone knows, a good defense will I terrupt the offense, the team that adjusts will win. Beck teaches adjustment, on the field, in the game. Shredder improved greatly last season, he will likely improve more. I expect the whole QB room to improve, too.

Dino moved up the ranks quickly before arriving in Syracuse. He brought along friends and good coaches at lower levels, and even the P5 level. They are gone. His hires have improved. Wildhack has helped, has also secured resources. The board is behind the entire AD. Dino was left with few true P5 players. The quality and quantity have steadily improved. The team is not taken lightly, except by the powers, and even then the team surprises. We are headed in the right general direction, even though there are ups and downs.

Let's see what happens next. Go Orange.
