I thought we competed hard. I thought that Kingz and George were both terrific. I thought Donnie had a very good game, and although the other 3 big guys didn't have statistically their best games, we have presence inside. We play hard on defense.

On the other hand, there was JJ's mental meltdown late. And right after he made a sweet corner 3, and hit that first foul shot. And then 2 airballs and he had to be taken out of the game. Wow, shades of Chuck Knoblaugh ruined was I thought was very good comeback game by JJ.

We could have used Betsey in this game, and will need him in Las Vegas.

Don't get me started on the refs, because that always sounds like sour grapes. But my goodness some of those calls were so terrible.

I guess the glass-half-full outlook is that it's better for the team to had to execute in a late game situation to preserve the lead, and they did. Just barely. But it's still a "W".

I think this is going to be a very competitive team in the next several games. I think we have a lot of good pieces. I just wish JJ hadn't kind of ruined what was a very solid comeback game.

Sadly, Betsey had a boot on and Freeman looks gimpy. We need both of them.
 
The games in LV will be interesting. I don’t think many of us expect the Cuse to come away with a victory in either of the first 2 games. I don’t think Monmouth was that good. I think we were that bad. There were 2 or 3 times in the game I thought we would blow them out but we just could not play consistently well for even 5-6 minutes in a row. Let’s hope the team forgets tonight’s game and heads to Vegas with confidence.
 
There are things that need to addressed, that have been seen in every game so far.

Donnie needs to figure something out. He’s taking terrible shots, and any work in the post is a struggle. Run more pick and rolls!

Kiyan needs to learn to play against pressure, sooner rather than later. And please, hit some free throws. His form his great, his touch is great, why aren’t they falling?!

As a team we need fewer lapses on defense. Multiple times a game a shooter runs to the other side of the court and ends up wide open.

Also feel like even if they make the tournament, there are so many better options OUTSIDE of the program
 
We have 6 days to right this ship. I think the talent is there for this to be a pretty good team. I have been worried about Red. After tonight, I am even more worried. I have seen nothing to suggest that he can go up against a coach like Sampson Or Self and come out ahead.

I mean he got badly out coached by Monmouth’s HC, there’s 0 chance he’s gonna look decent (at best) against Sampson or Self, those guys are 100 times the coach Autry is

I mean he hit that big 3 and that should've iced the game. Then he had the and 1. It was double digits. Then he missed a shot at the rim that he can make but looked like last year shenanigans. Then he collapsed at the FT line and the team folded too.

Every guy on the court made a bad decision down the stretch when we got into all the stoppages.

-Kingz was playing great then takes that early in the shotclock 3
-Donnie's terrible fadeaway
-Kiyan trying to muscle up a play inside and hoping to get fouls when clearly the refs were not blowing whistles at the rim. Kiyan terrible from the FT line.
-Kyle throwing the ball right back at Donnie's knees late for that turnover
-Nate George needs to take over and he didn't down the stretch. He needs to dribble the ball for 30 seconds and then make a play
-Sadiq didnt' foul out but he needs to know that the refs are just waiting to call anything.

Then the coaches. I'm know Autry could do better, but I'm also confident that FT's is not a coaching thing. That's players being men on your home court and making your shot to put a team away. Gave away close to 20 cuz we missed every front end of a 1 and 1.

Yup. Louisville realized they were going to be heading down a similar path and fired their HC and went out and got a great one in Kelsey, who was from outside their program as well. Syracuse can do so much better and we haven’t been Syracuse in years, plain and simple. And imo that all starts with the HC.
