Rob Moore named Bills WRs coach

The Buffalo Bills have named Rob Moore as wide receivers coach.

Moore, 45, will enter his first season in the NFL coaching ranks after spending the past four seasons as the wide receivers coach for Syracuse University.

During his time coaching the Orange, Moore helped lead his alma mater to three bowl victories. Under Moore’s tutelage, WR Alec Lemon finished his career ranked first in the Orange record books for all-time receptions (201) and second in all-time receiving yards (1,780).

Prior to his coaching stint at Syracuse, Moore was the wide receivers coach for Phoenix Junior College in 2009. Moore also spent time working as a consultant for Protect Management and Athlete’s Performance training athletes for the NFL Draft where he oversaw future draft picks including Robert Meachem, Dwayne Bowe, Vernon Davis, Golden Tate and Arrelious Benn. From 2002-03, Moore was Montclair High School’s receivers coach.

Moore, a 12-year NFL veteran, was the first overall pick of the New York Jets in the 1990 NFL Supplemental Draft. He spent five years with New York (1990-1994) and seven with the Arizona Cardinals (1995-2001). In 153 games played (146 starts), Moore registered 628 receptions for 9,368 yards and 49 touchdowns en route to earning Pro Bowl honors in 1994 and 1997 in addition to All-Pro honors during the 1997 season.

A four-year starter at Syracuse University, Moore’s collegiate playing career ranks amongst the best in Orange school history. The Hempstead, NY native holds SU records for receiving yards per game (75.8) and career touchdown receptions (22). He was named to Syracuse’s All-Century Team in November 1999.

Rob Moore, who ripped NYC coaches and kids, is gone from Syracuse, joining Bills staff as WR coach. Really helped the Orange, I see.

Good for Rob, I think this is where he truly belongs. It's a shame because I know he hated recruiting but I really think he was a hell of a coach and we have a bunch of guys coming in as well. Best of luck, I don't think there is a better guy out there. I met Rob his rookie year with the Jets, long story but he was a great guy then and still is. Best of luck

Not bad for a guy who's been coaching for only five years.
Good luck, RM.

Rob Moore, you're dead. I'm just kidding. Good luck.

I hope his departure was known to our WR recruits before they signed. I'd hate to think they were coming to SU believing that Moore was going to coach them only to find out he was leaving.

I don't know the details for sure, but I'd be surprised if that was the case. There's a reason why this news came out literally right after signing day...

Why make this post?

He's an alum, who did a lot on the field as a player and a lot for the program as a coach.

Why not make the post? There's two parts to the college job, coaching and recruiting. The staff can be improved now. I have no issues with Rob Moore.

I'm not a big fan of alums on the coaching staff though.

Happy for Moore to get an NFL level coaching shot. That being said this could actually work out best for both parties as Moore hated recruiting and was pretty much a disaster in NJ and NYC. We may lose a little in coaching at first but should gain in recruiting big time. Best of luck to Coach Moore with the Bills!

Weren't our recruits brought here by Shafer/McDonald? Isn't playing in their style of offense and under their leadership the big attraction for the players?

I agree. I know other schools have delayed announcements like this after signing day, but I'm not a big fan of the practice. So I hope that wasn't the case. But I think it is probably naive to think otherwise.

Just heard on the radio from Shafer, Marrone asked Shafer for permission. Shafer granted permission and after looking at the job Moore came back and said he wanted to take it. The deal wasn't sealed until today apparently so the recruits didnt know.

He did say McDonald would take the WRs and they would look to find the best person for the empty spot. Unsure if he meant McDonald will coach the WRs permanently or the new coach will be a WR coach.

The host asked about whether the recruits will be upset. He said the recruits committed to a Syracuse Univ education not a certain coach. It's a business, yadda yadda yadda.

I would think the players would also want to be comfortable with the WR coach before they committed.

Maybe give the WRs to McDonald and get a dedicated ST coach?

All the best to a man who has given Orange fans much to grateful for. Both on the field and on the sidelines.

Sorry to see him go just as we are getting depth at WR but he deserves a shot in the NFL.

Show me one WR recruit who mentioned a Rob Moore in their recruitment or when they signed yesterday. Still waiting...

Well he certainly has the pedigree to Coach the WRs and I believe has been the main recruiter for all the WRs in the past two classes.

Has developed 10 collegiate wide receivers who played in the NFL
In 2012, named one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation by
In 2011, coached Miami receiver Tommy Streeter, who led the ACC in yards per catch (17.6)
In 2011, mentored Travis Benjamin, who ranked sixth on Miami's careeer receiving yards (2,146) and receptions (131) record lists.
In 2007-08, coached 2008 All-Big Ten receiver Eric Decker, who finished his career as Minnesota's career leader in receptions and receiving yards and Ernie Wheelright, who ranks in the top five receivers in school history
In 2001-03, worked with P.J Fleck, who ranked third in history in career receptions (179) and fourth in receiving yards (2,162) and was recently named the head coach at Western Michigan
In 2001, developed second-team All-MAC performer Darrell Hill, and Sam Hurd and Dan Sheldon, who both set receiving records at Northern Illinois

I am glad Marrone waited till after NSD. I also like the fact McDonald offered to be WRs Coach/O-Coordinator and allow Shaffer to get the best possible coach he can get. I would like the best possible recruiter as college football is all about talent first then coaching. Good luck to Moore in the NFL as he can just coach pros and not have to recruit kids with egos he probably feels are undeserved. This is a win/win for everybody.
