More Basketball on the USS Midway?

Inside the carrier? Is there a ceiling high enough for that?
There is plenty of space for a basketball court in the hanger on modern carriers (Nimitz and Ford class) where they store up to 80 aircraft. The height of a hanger varies but it’s approximately 25’ on Nuclear carriers. I believe the minimum ceiling height for an indoor basketball court is 24’ so it would be doable. The midway hanger ceiling is approximately 16’. So no dice there.

Is the minimum height realistic for a college game? 25 ft seems low. I can't say I've measured how high a ball gets on a deep shot but it seems like that would be pretty close to the ceiling.

Ok I looked it up. Apparently the average three point shot reaches a height of around 16 ft. I guess 25 ft would leave enough, even after losing a litte with installation of a floor. Like you said though, it's moot with how low the midway ceiling is.

Pearl’s half court game winner gets rejected by the ceiling!

This is stupid. Play in a D-1 gym.

How high are the ceilings in the ballroom at the Battle for Atlantis

Anybody know how high the ceiling is in those ballrooms we play in at the Battle for Atlantis? It looked low on TV.

The Imperial Ball Room is 26 feet. I wonder how much they lose when they install the court.

“Battleship” smh

Since they are planning it on an active vessel, I’m crossing my fingers they do the game underway and be cruising at 25 knots!

Of course they may actually hold the game on the hangar deck in which case it wouldn’t matter.

OK, so this is a little Forrest Gumpy for me, but I was just in San Diego (left yesterday) and saw this carrier
docked across the bay from our hotel.

I couldn’t see the number on it, because it was obscured with a large tent and other things on the flight deck, and now I know why!!

My company National conference had their big final dinner party Wed nite on the Midway. It was very cool (also - literally!) to be dining on the flight deck and there was an excellent band playing right in front of the bridge.

This could prolly be posted in the No Peasants thread…. ;)

Was it one of the military bands? Most of them are really good.
