MT @MattSmithCFB: Waffle House & IHOP? MT @LarryWilliamsTI Clemson AD says ACC in early stages of exploring changes to divisional structure

With Louisville slotting into the top-heavy Atlantic next year these discussions were inevitable. We've discussed this topic endlessly on this board so it's interesting we have an AD saying that division changes may be imminent. The biggest change I'd like to see is a 9 game conference schedule so we wouldn't see Coastal schools like VPI, Miami, Duke, UNC, GT so infrequently. Right now it's like we're in different leagues.

if there going to change the divisions they have a month or 2 to work on it before 2014 acc schedule is due to be released. Any changes will hopefully lead to less permanent cross over games so we can rotate the division quicker since I don't see 9 conference games until sec agrees to it

my concern with this is that the balance of powers shifts and shifts every 5 years. the current structure made sense when miami and vtech were top 15 teams. if this happens again, the balance well be uneven. imalso hope this doesnt lead to a fsu and clemson centric conference where the realigbment is based on setting up clemson and fsu to play in the championship every year.

i still like an old big east division. bc, su, pitt, lville, vtech, miami and i dont know uva.

otherwise maybe a true north and a true south split - bc, su, pitt, lville, vpi, uva, wake

I don't see either of those happening right now I'm thinking another zipper type agreement.

Sorry, but zipper? Not sure what that means.

It means that the divisions are grouped other than by geographic location (East/West, North/South).

Tell me if I'm crazy, but what if divisions changed yearly? Could that ever work?

16 teams in pods works. Play the other 3 teams in your pod plus 4 others in another pod plus one other game. Rotate through the other piss on an annual basis. This way you face every team in the conference every 3 years.

We discussed this, ad nauseam, several times over the past two years.

That's much different than what I'm suggesting, but Htown points out that I'm crazy, so we can put that to rest.

Would think if ya had 16 teams in Pods you'd go to a 9 game schedule. Play 3 teams in your pod and half of each other Pod... 3+2+2+2=9 so ya play everyone every other year at least.

One simple solution...flip FSU for Miami

That was my exact feeling as well, but it'll suck not playing FSU every year. However, having Miami back on the schedule has it's advantages too. I'm torn. I like that we have Clemson and FSU. I want Louisville for basketball, but would rather not for football.

i would say swap Florida State and Va Tech.

Both Florida schools in the same division is a non starter. Never going to happen.

I like either of these :

florida state for Miami wouldn't seem like a bad option and is probably the easiest to accomplish especially if it came with going to 9 conference games.

Atlantic----------------------------------------Coastal
Miami------------------------------------------Florida State
Clemson---------------------------------------Georgia Tech
Louisville---------------------------------------Virginia Tech
Boston College---------------------------------Virginia
Syracuse---------------------------------------Pittsburgh
NC State---------------------------------------North Carolina
Wake Forest-----------------------------------Duke

another option :
Atlantic----------------------------------------Coastal
Miami------------------------------------------Florida State
Virginia Tech----------------------------------Virginia
Clemson---------------------------------------Georgia Tech
NC State---------------------------------------North Carolina
Wake Forest-----------------------------------Duke
Syracuse---------------------------------------Pittsburgh
Boston College--------------------------------Louisvile

Why does everyone assume that Clemson wont skip a beat when Boyd and their OC leave? I mean, i know the media has been slurping them the past few years but honestly, werent they pretty mediocre prior to that?

who says there oc leaves?

We'll never see a north/south split, the northern schools like the southern exposure.
And the original ACC schools don't want to be put into a northern division, especially UVA.

FWIW I believe the #1 HS QB is going there next year

I thought that super star from buffalo was going to start
